At RUSSH,<\/em> we’re never short of a recommendation \u2013 whether it be films, books, or music that spark joy (or tears) in between deadlines.<\/p>\n

This month, our editors have been all over the place in the best way possible. Some of us have gone deep into comfort rewatches (Sex and the City<\/em> never fails), while others have been floored by documentaries or even fallen asleep mid\u2013Francis Ford Coppola musical. Diane Keaton marathons, Beetlejuice<\/em> on a plane, Memento<\/em> for the first time \u2013 there\u2019s been no shortage of variety.<\/p>\n

Our playlists have been just as eclectic: Tame Impala and Sleep Token on repeat, Lily Allen\u2019s West End Girl<\/em> stealing hearts (and leaving mouths agape), plus podcasts from comfort watches like Emma Chamberlain and Rachel Sennott. And when it comes to reading, it\u2019s everything from memoirs and novels to Substacks and even recipe books.<\/p>\n

So, here\u2019s what we\u2019ve been watching, listening to and reading in October.<\/p>\n

Watch \u2026 <\/i>I managed to catch One Battle After Another<\/i><\/a> in cinemas before starting on a Diane Keaton marathon<\/a>: Godfather I and II, The First Wives Club <\/i>(a forever classic), and Something\u2019s Gotta Give. <\/i>I also caught the first half of Martin Scorsese\u2019s George Harrison: Living in the Material World.<\/i><\/p>\n

Listen \u2026 <\/i>Of course, it\u2019s been a big month as the office\u2019s resident Tame Impala<\/a> fan club president. Deadbeat<\/i> has been on repeat.<\/p>\n

Read \u2026 <\/i>I\u2019m still finishing off Nova Scotia House<\/i> (it\u2019s beautiful, it\u2019s hot, it made me bawl like a baby). But I\u2019ve also started Heaven<\/i> by Mieko Kawakami (dreamy, melancholy, enjoying very much so far too). I also loved Amelia Dimoldenberg\u2019s profile on The Gentlewoman<\/i><\/a>.<\/i><\/p>\n

Watch\u2026 <\/i>I\u2019ve gone back to Sex and the City<\/i><\/a> this month, which is starting to become more of a ritual at this point. Endlessly quotable and never gets old. No notes.<\/p>\n

Listen\u2026 <\/i>The Marias have been providing the perfect soundtrack to slow mornings, while Emma Chamberlain\u2019s podcast has kept things delightfully chaotic and honest. A balance I didn\u2019t know I needed.<\/p>\n

Read\u2026 <\/i>I\u2019ve found myself diving into Marina Abramovic<\/a>‘s memoir. It\u2019s intense, fascinating, and completely immersive. Her perspective on performance, life and endurance is unlike anything I\u2019ve read before.<\/p>\n

Watch \u2026 <\/i>It is no secret that I love Tom Waits and Natassja Kinski, so I started watching Francis Ford Coppola<\/a>‘s One From The Heart<\/i>. Honestly, I fell asleep before the end so I\u2019m looking forward to finishing it, although I was not expecting it to be an unusual take on a musical. I also recently re-watched Napoleon<\/i>, very compelling although I am such a softie that I cannot watch the horses die in battle and averted my eyes.<\/p>\n

Listen \u2026 <\/i>Lots of things as I prepare for the October Monthly Music Wrap, some very relatable new releases from U.S Girls, I\u2019ve been enjoying the new Dry Cleaning and a little bit of Gorecki to keep the classical music in balance.<\/p>\n

Read \u2026 <\/i>I\u2019m in need of a new book and a holiday, I also want time to read Miranda July\u2019s Substack<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Watch \u2026 <\/i>I rented Materialists<\/em><\/a> over the weekend. I know there is some debate on how the movie ended but I really enjoyed it. The cast was great. I also have been watching the Fast & Furious<\/em> movies with my husband and it\u2019s definitely a fast (sorry, had to) trip down memory lane.<\/p>\n

Listen \u2026 <\/i>Tame Impala\u2019s Dracula<\/em> has been on repeat. Also Sombr\u2019s I Barely Know Her<\/em> album and Maddison Beer\u2019s new track, Bitter Sweet<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Read \u2026 <\/i>I reread Fourth Wing<\/em> and had fun feeling all the feelings again. I love getting wrapped up in a book even if the hangovers are mind numbing. I finished Alchemised<\/em> in a couple days, and the rest of my time reading has been spent rereading over my own written work. A romantasy I hope will be completed within a few months.<\/p>\n

Watch \u2026 <\/i>I watched One Battle After Another <\/i>and it was brilliant! No notes. It has been a while since I left the theatre utterly shocked (in the best way possible). I also watched on Netflix The Perfect Neighbour <\/i>and absolutely sobbed. Such a strong documentary. I also watched the two Beetlejuice<\/i> films<\/a> on the plane, and was a bit disappointed\u2026<\/p>\n

Listen \u2026 <\/i>LILY ALLEN. West End Girl. <\/i>Break ups truly are the key to success it seems. Because this album is superb.<\/p>\n

Listen \u2026 <\/i>Just plugged in my headphones with plans to listen to Lily Allen’s West End Girl <\/i>from start to finish. I am also very into all the Nancy Meyers playlists on Spotify. RIP Diane Keaton.<\/p>\n

Read \u2026 <\/i>Emails. Ha. Substack is it for me right now (I\u2019ll get back into my pile of books post deadline). Emily Sunberg\u2019s Feed Me<\/i><\/a> feels necessary for anyone working in or adjacent to the media industry. I also love Neelam Noted<\/i><\/a> and Ali LaBelle\u2019s A la Carte<\/i><\/a> \u2013 topics include house jewellery, pyjamas and summer bucket lists.<\/p>\n

Watch \u2026 <\/i>Memento<\/em> \u2013 for the first time (which feels crazy as its such an iconic film). Really enjoyed it, had to fully commit to watching without distractions (i.e phone), which I think is a sign of a good film.<\/p>\n

Listen \u2026 <\/i>Rachel Sennott on her I Love LA<\/em> podcast tour \u2013 specifically on Jake Shane<\/a> and Caleb Heron\u2019s podcasts. I love her! And I love hearing about her process! So keen for the show. As well as Ethel Cain\u2019s latest album Willoughby Tucker, I’ll Always Love You. <\/em>Phenom.<\/p>\n

Read \u2026 <\/i>Nagi Maehashi\u2019s Recipe Tin Eats<\/em> \u2013 I just moved out, and now cooking is a reality for me. Thank you Nagi for helping me nourish myself.<\/p>\n

Watch\u2026<\/em> I watched Hallow Road<\/i> the other night which I really enjoyed. The twist was great and it really did keep you on the edge of your seat even though most of the film happened in a car. I also saw The Lost Bus<\/i>. True stories like that are always uncomfortable but I thought it was very well done.<\/p>\n

Listen\u2026<\/em> I\u2019d be lying if I tried to deny that this month\u2019s playlist hasn\u2019t been mostly repeats of my favourites from Sleep Token and Lana Del Rey<\/a>. But my partner did also introduce me to some newness from Ninajirachi<\/a> plus the new Fred Again\u2026 with Amyl & the Sniffers<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Read\u2026<\/em> I finally started the Throne of Glass<\/i> series. I\u2019m one book in so far and have just started the second. My hard copy of Alchemised <\/i>arrived<\/a>, but I haven\u2019t started it yet.<\/p>\n
