If 2025 was the era you finally decided to enter your hosting era, this one’s for you. Here at RUSSH, we’ve long championed the art of the dinner party. It’s more than just the food you serve, but those little touches — well-burnt candles, that tried-and-tested playlist — that create a feeling that lingers long after your guests have left. Whether it’s an impromptu dinner for your nearest and dearest, or an elaborate gathering with a long guest list, more and more, we’re choosing to entertain at home rather than compete for the perfect table at a busy restaurant.

In a world that often moves too fast, dinner parties offer a slower, more intentional means to socialising. It’s a way to be present and reconnect with friends, and to find joy in the tactile rituals of lighting a candle, choosing a playlist, or perfecting that tiramisu recipe. There’s also no need for a special occasion to throw a great dinner party. Sometimes, the most memorable nights are born from a midweek craving for connection, and a simple pasta whipped up at a moments notice.

But, on those occasions where you do want to go the extra mile for your guests, it pays to be prepared. From soft linens and sculptural serveware, to a few curated pieces (candles, napkins, perhaps a water jug) that elevate your table without overwhelming, the right essentials can turn even the simplest get-together into something special. These are the pieces that do the groundwork, inviting people to settle in, and making the experience feel considered without trying too hard.

Whether you’re an experienced host looking to level up your at-home entertaining essentials, or are dipping your toes into entertaining at home, and looking for a few pieces to get you started, we’ve got you covered. Below, peruse the best at-home entertaining essentials, as loved by the RUSSH team.

What is a price gouging ban and how will it impact shoppers? https://www.russh.com/what-is-the-price-gouging-ban/ Mon, 15 Dec 2025 02:45:35 +0000 https://www.russh.com/?p=274579 Here's everything you need to know.

The post What is a price gouging ban and how will it impact shoppers? appeared first on RUSSH.

With grocery prices still straining household budgets in Australia, the federal government has moved to crack down on price gouging by major supermarkets. New laws targeting retail giants like Coles and Woolworths aim to curb excessive pricing, reshape competition, and deliver fairer outcomes for shoppers at the checkout.

Here’s how the new price gouging ban will impact shoppers and retailers alike.

What is a price gouging ban?

Put simply, the new price gouging regulations announced by the government will make it illegal for very large retailers like Woolworths and Coles to be able to charge excessive prices for goods when compared to the cost of the supply plus a reasonable margin.

The new laws have been implemented off the back of the ACCC’s supermarket inquiry earlier this year, which found that Coles and Woolworths dominate Australia’s grocery market in a way that dulls genuine price competition. While the regulator could not conclusively prove illegal price gouging during the pandemic and cost-of-living crisis, it did find that both supermarkets maintained or increased their profit margins as prices rose, making them among the most profitable globally. In essence, the inquiry suggests that high grocery prices are not just the result of higher costs, but also of a market where limited competition allows the major players to protect their profits, leaving shoppers with few real alternatives at the checkout.

The intention of the ban is to hopefully lower grocery bills for all Australians, resulting in a fairer trip to the grocery store.

How will this be enforced?

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) will be responsible for enforcing the new regime, which includes issuing fines and penalties to retailers. If Coles or Woolworths break the new price-gouging laws, they could be fined at least $10 million, and possibly much more.

The fine will be whichever is highest out of:

$10 millionthree times the profit they made from breaking the law, orif that profit can’t be worked out, 10 per cent of the company’s total sales over the past year.

But how will the ACCC actually monitor this in practice?

1. Ongoing price surveillance

The ACCC regularly collects data on prices, costs, and profit margins from major retailers (like Coles and Woolworths). They compare price rises with changes in costs (such as wages, fuel, rent, and supply costs).

2. Mandatory information requests

The ACCC can legally force companies to hand over internal documents, pricing models, emails, and profit data. This helps determine whether price increases are justified or excessive.

3. Consumer and supplier complaints

Shoppers, farmers, suppliers, and whistleblowers can report suspicious price increases. A large number of similar complaints can trigger a formal investigation.

4. Market studies and inquiries

The ACCC runs deep investigations into entire sectors (like groceries). These studies look at patterns over time, not just one product or one week.

5. Comparing profits, not just prices

Price gouging isn’t just “prices going up.” The ACCC looks at whether companies are making unusually high profits that can’t be explained by higher costs.

When will it come into effect?

The new regulations will officially come into effect on 1 July 2026, and will become law within the Food and Grocery Code.

Why are supermarkets like Woolworths and Coles opposing it?

Coles and Woolworths say the ban could do more harm than good because it makes pricing decisions riskier and less predictable. The supermarket giants have argued that the law’s idea of what counts as “excessive” pricing is open to interpretation, even when price rises are driven by real costs like energy, freight and wages.

Faced with the threat of heavy fines, the supermarkets warn they may be forced to price more cautiously, scale back discounts, or pass on compliance costs – outcomes they say could quietly push prices higher. Both Woolworths and Coles also both claimed in public statements that the laws unfairly single them out, potentially distorting competition rather than delivering the cheaper groceries shoppers are hoping for.

Sydney based interiors studio Handelsmann + Khaw on Bec + Bridge’s new boutique https://www.russh.com/bec-and-bridge-boutique-interior-design/ Mon, 15 Dec 2025 01:08:59 +0000 https://www.russh.com/?p=273856 In conversation with designers Tania Handelsmann and Gillian Khaw.

The post Sydney based interiors studio Handelsmann + Khaw on Bec + Bridge’s new boutique appeared first on RUSSH.

]]>
Sydney-based interior design duo Tania Handelsmann and Gillian Khaw, founders of studio Handelsmann + Khaw, unveiled the latest boutique for Australian fashion favourites Bec + Bridge – a space that leans into sensuality and theatre. Designed as a series of unfolding rooms rather than a single open-plan store, the boutique invites guests to move through it as though they were stepping into a fashion-forward apartment.

At its core, the space is defined by a rich, tactile palette and sculptural detailing. Curved stainless steel surfaces set the tone on entry, softened by plush carpet and suede-lined walls in a deep “Coca-Cola” hue. A French 1940s Jean Royère-style light traces the architraves with a soft, cinematic glow, while an early 20th-century Austrian pendant in the window adds a final note of vintage drama. Together, these elements create a world that feels both nostalgic and unmistakably modern.

Below, Handelsmann and Khaw speak on translating the Bec + Bridge identity into an interior, balancing bold visual moments with function, and the design decisions that shaped the finished space.

When you begin working on a new retail space like this one, what does your initial ideation process look like and where did you draw inspiration for this store?

We sat down with Bec and Bridge [founders, Rebecca Cooper and Bridget Yorston] and talked about their vision for the store and direction for the brand as well as who the Bec + Bridge woman is. I remember the meeting was at their headquarters and we were surrounded by mood boards showing their next collections and racks of samples. It was the fun fashion moment you’d imagine.

We drew inspiration from a mix of eras and places: from a Milanese street’s shopfront to the theatre of a circular change room one might have seen in Bergdorfs in the 1930s. We liked the idea of creating a sequence of rooms, like a classic European apartment but with the sharp modernism seen in a 1970s New York skyscraper.

Bec + Bridge has such a distinct brand identity – how did you translate that into the interior design while still creating something fresh?

We wanted an interior that was sexy, unexpected, nonchalant. Because we mainly do residential work, we saw the shop more through the prism of what space would you expect to find a Bec + Bridge woman, rather than how do we embody her in a space.

How did you balance creating a visually striking space with keeping it functional?

Our concept was based on the customer experiencing the store a bit like they were walking into an apartment – with one room leading on from another. Fortuitously, by creating more walls against which to anchor clothing rails, our floor plan turned out to be functional also. One thing we learned is that the more empty-looking the store, the more visually striking it is – but the less functional it is. One has to balance these requirements.

Were there any architectural features of the building that influenced the final design direction?

Shopping centres are great because they are blank canvases. We had only the centre’s neutral stone palette as a backdrop, which really allowed us to lean into the stainless steel entrance, which is both a nod to the grand entrances of Miami’s Art Deco buildings and a louche Parisian nightclub. If anything, our scheme was designed to create architectural features where there weren’t any bones or features to play with. Hence also, the architectural ‘skylight’ we placed in the centre room.

Collaboration is often key in projects like this – what was the process like working with the Bec + Bridge team, and how aligned were you on the vision?

It’s funny because we expected Bec and Bridge to be very hands on, but actually what I have learned is that our most creative clients give us the most space to run the process; there is, I guess, a mutual respect for what other creatives do. I do think this elicits the best results.

As you’d imagine, they’re very design literate: they instantly understand any references, but they also articulated what they wanted from the design in a clear and direct way, such that it was easy to align with their vision. I would say our team are big fans of the brand, so our aesthetics were quite aligned from the beginning.

Were there any unexpected challenges during the design or build, and how did you work through them?

Fitting out a retail space happens in such a very short, intensive time period that there are decisions which need to be made that hour, lest it holds up the program. This is so different to building a house. The pressure is actually quite exciting and to that extent, some compromises had to be made, because we were building a shop and not someone’s forever home. I actually enjoyed finding commercial ways to do beautiful details.

Looking back now that the space is complete, what is your personal favourite moment or detail in the store?

One design guideline in a centre is that the shop’s structure can’t stick out into the mall area itself. We felt strongly about the entrance being a sculptural protrusion, so we had to think creatively about how to do this. In the end, we angled the shopfront back to stay within the guidelines. I think the interest that the front of the store creates was worth it and it has become my favourite moment. I also love the stainless steel lined shop windows with its art nouveau light fitting (thank you for saying yes to that, Bec and Bridge!)

Exactly how much you need to earn to rent comfortably in 2026 https://www.russh.com/australian-rental-income-data-2026/ Fri, 12 Dec 2025 00:15:33 +0000 https://www.russh.com/?p=274386 The salary required to comfortably rent a typical home has jumped into six-figure territory.

The post Exactly how much you need to earn to rent comfortably in 2026 appeared first on RUSSH.

]]>
It’s shaping up to be a bleak picture for renters across Australia. The latest Domain data shows that the income needed to avoid rental stress has risen sharply across every capital city since 2019. In fact, in almost every market across Australia, the salary required to comfortably rent a typical home has jumped into six-figure territory, outpacing wage growth and tightening the gap between what households earn and what they need to secure a place to live.

With vacancy rates at historic lows and rents still climbing, the findings show a market that continues to move faster than renters can keep up with.

Wondering how your salary weighs up to housing trends? Here’s how much you’d need to earn to rent in every Australian capital city.

Sydney and leads the pack

Unsurprisingly, Sydney remains the most expensive city to rent in. A household now needs $135,200 to comfortably rent a typical house, up from $90,133 in 2019. Units aren’t far behind at $130,000, up from $88,400 in 2019, reflecting how tight the rental market has become.

Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth are no longer affordable alternatives

Once considered more attainable cities for renters, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth have all seen sharp increases in the income needed to rent. In Brisbane, the jump has been dramatic — from $71,067 for a house in 2019 to $114,400 in 2025. For units, it’s an equally steep climb, from $66,733 in 2019, to $109,200, making it the second most expensive city in Australia.

Adelaide now sits at $107,467 for a house rental, up from $67,600. For units, prices have jumped from $54,600 to $90,133.

In Perth, renters will need to earn $121,333 for a typical house, up from $64,133. And incomes required for units have nearly doubled, from $55,467 to $104,000.

Melbourne shows a slower ascent

Somewhat surprising, Melbourne was overtaken by Brisbane as the second most expensive city.

The data shows the income needed for a house is now $100,533, up from $74,533 in 2019. And for units, you’ll need $99,667, a slight jump from $72,800.

What type of towel is best for the beach?

Ultimately, this can be chalked up to preference, but there are a few schools of thought on what makes the best beach towel. Unless you want to be carting around a heavy, soggy towel – which, if you’re catching public transport is an absolute punish – most people prefer a lightweight towel for the beach. For this reason, it’s important to pay attention to material. Turkish cotton offers the thinnest profile, however they can be plush too if that’s more your speed. They’re also absorbent but fast-drying, which is essential.

You can also try a polyester microfibre towel, which work particularly well for their compact, lightweight form. However, these are a little less luxurious, and are mostly used by people for working out, camping or any form of rigorous exercise as you don’t need to be precious with them.

The best beach towels are robust, colour-fast, can withstand sand and salt water, and spacious so you can stretch out comfortably.

What is the difference between a beach towel and bath towel?

As a rule of thumb beach towels tend to be larger by around 30cms and are built to be more resilient to the elements.

Given that bath towels are not expected to come into contact with things like sand, they tend to be more sumptuous, thick and available in lighter colours. They’re also more absorbent. On the other hand, beach towels come in bright, patterned colourways, to blend in with your (hopefully) sunny disposition, but also so you can spot it in a crowd or from the water.

In partnership with Fujifilm

There’s a particular silence inside our camera rolls. Thousands of moments – golden hours, dinner tables, faces we miss – waiting in a cloud we rarely revisit. We scroll, we save, we forget. But lately, there’s a quiet pull back to the tangible. A desire to make our homes – not our phones – the places where our memories settle.

Think of it less as decorating and more as assembling a living diary. A gallery wall that shifts with the seasons. A row of frames on a bookshelf, each one a portal to who you were at the time. Even a cluster of mini prints taped above a desk – small, eternal reminders in spaces where we need grounding most. These aren’t curated for guests. They’re curated for you.

Fujifilm Photos feels like the gentle facilitator of this return to tactility. Their Fujifilm Photo Printing Services are intentionally simple – clean, intuitive, the opposite of decision paralysis. Upload the photos you already love, the ones buried six months deep, and turn them into pieces you can hold. Start with something easy: a stack of prints for your bedside table, swapped out whenever life changes. It’s a small shift, but it makes the room feel lived-in, personal, warm.

For larger gestures, think about anchoring a space with a single oversized print. A beach from a trip that changed you; the face of someone who feels like home. Printed big, the photo becomes less of an object and more of an atmosphere. Fujifilm Photos’ quality makes sure it feels intentional – elevated rather than sentimental.

And then there are the quieter, slightly “cheesy” options that actually bring the most joy. A mug with a moment you adore, waiting for you each morning. A photo book that carries memories of your favourite place. A personalised calendar built from a year worth remembering. We pretend these things are cliché, but secretly they make the everyday feel softer, more ours.

The truth is, when you print your photos, the energy of a room changes. Spaces feel fuller. Corners feel considered. You’re not just styling a home – you’re honouring the life happening inside it.

In a world overflowing with images, maybe the real luxury is choosing a few and letting them linger. Fujifilm Photo Printing Services hands us the tools to do exactly that. The rest is simply paying attention.

Inside actor Geraldine Viswanathan’s colour-filled, playful Sydney home https://www.russh.com/geraldine-viswanathan-sydney-home-interiors/ Wed, 10 Dec 2025 02:15:36 +0000 https://www.russh.com/?p=273684 "You can definitely feel the Californian influences in the light oak in the bedroom and the loft style living room with rich, warm, eclectic styles."

The post Inside actor Geraldine Viswanathan’s colour-filled, playful Sydney home appeared first on RUSSH.

]]>
Geraldine Viswanathan moves deftly between sharp comedy and nuanced drama – whether she’s acting alongside Margaret Qualley and Ethan Hawk in Drive Away Dolls, or scene-stealing in Natasha Lyonne’s Poker Face.

Her work is marked by an immediacy and emotional intelligence that feel distinctly her own. And off-screen, Viswanathan gravitates toward spaces that echo this clarity and warmth. In collaboration with Ellison Studios, she has shaped a home that feels less like a set piece and more like an intimate extension of her creative life – layered, light-filled and expressive.

The interiors reveal a thoughtful balance of softness and structure, where sculptural forms meet playful gestures and personal artefacts are laid bare. What emerges is a sanctuary designed for restoration and imaginative flow, a space that holds her at her most expansive while remaining deeply, unmistakably hers. Take a look inside, below.

Your home feels warm, tactile and deeply personal. What mood or feeling were you hoping to create when you began working with Ellison Studios?

I wanted to create a cozy sanctuary for myself, my family and dear friends. A safe space to hold and support me in my creative endeavours, where I can relax and rejuvenate after long stints of working in the US. The Ellison Studios team and I were really aligned on the creative vision for the space – wanting it to reflect my personality and that intention – a space that feels light, warm, inspiring and playful.

There’s a beautiful softness in your palette – creams, blush tones, and earthy browns. How did you land on this colour story for the space?

Since this is sanctuary for my sister and I, we wanted the colours and tones of the space to feel feminine and grounding. We started with the Ellison Studios signatures – the Muse Sofa in Malibu Caramel and the Yoko Bed in Oak – and allowed the palette to build from there. The lightness of those pieces with the airiness of the natural light from the big windows around the house really informed the softness of our colour palette. Creating that soft, neutral base meant we got to have fun with playful pops of colour and animal print (a personal fave of mine) to stand out without overwhelming the sense of calm the space invokes.

The furniture choices balance sculptural shapes with comfort – like the rounded sofa modules and playful dining chairs. What drew you to these forms?

I’m a curvy girl through and though – I love rounded, softer shapes so when I saw the Yoko Bed’s ball feet on the bed frame I freaked out. The plump, marshmallow-like sofa modules, the fuzzy, curved Huggy armchair. Each piece has so much personality, character and charm. They are conversation starters and do a lot of the design heavy lifting, which was such a gift as the space is new to me and I’m still moving in and finding pieces to display. All the pieces are in conversation with each other, which creates such a flow and ease throughout the space.

Art appears thoughtfully placed throughout – from the soft pink canvas above your bed to the expressive painting leaning in the dining area. How did you approach choosing and positioning art in your home?

Art is so deeply personal. We selected pieces that felt light, playful and quietly complex. Working with colour and unexpected placement brought a sense of spontaneity to the home – something that feels very true to me and how I like to live. I’m at the beginning of my art collecting journey and wanted to display works from amazing Australian female artists – like Julia Mechielsen and Jordy Hewitt. Theres also artworks by friends – like prints of my dear friend Shana Gohd’s photography from a trip to New York and another dear friend’s collage of cut outs of horses from vintage magazines (as I’m obsessed with horses). These personal, intentional details enrich my day to day so much.

Your bedroom feels incredibly serene, with natural textures and gentle lines. What elements were essential to making it a true sanctuary?

Every morning I wake up in my room, I feel like the luckiest girl in the world. The space feels so serene but also regal – I feel like a princess waking up in a cloud. The soft creams, the warmth of the oak, the gentle textures of silk and cotton, and small nods to nature all work together to form a space that feels restorative and deeply inviting.

There’s a lovely presence of books, objects and personal artefacts – stacked, styled, and subtly integrated. How do these collections reflect your life and creative influences?

There’s a wide array of books, records and knick knacks in the house that are a mix of mine, my sisters and my friends/creative collaborators who have stayed in the house while I’m away. The house has become a hub for my creative friends which is so fulfilling and dreamy for me. Relics from my creative community and things I’ve collected while traveling or working are all displayed around the house – reminding me of where I come from and where I’ve been. I feel so lucky to finally have a space to hold these special things, after years of living out of a suitcase!

The living room mixes plush textures with sculptural pieces, like the furry armchair and glossy stools. Can you talk about your relationship with texture and how you play with it across rooms?

Just like the bedroom feels perfectly serene and cozy, the living room feels vibrant and inspiring. it’s the perfect space for morning tea parties, working from the couch or late night debriefs. The different textures in each room create depth without losing a sense of cohesion – it strikes that fine balance. Those different layers make the space more interesting and inspiring and really reflect my inner world as a creative.

Many corners of the home – like the reading chair by the bedside or the glass dining table surrounded by stacks of books – feel like vignettes of your daily rituals. Are there particular routines or moments these spaces were designed around?

Journaling and reading are fundamental parts of my daily routine and life. I journal every day as soon as I wake up and read before I go to bed, so the Glove Chair next to my bed supports that and has massively changed the game for me. It’s also the perfect place to write and read scripts from, which is what I spend all day doing. Good thing it’s the most comfortable chair in the world because I practically live on it.

Some of the pieces feel timeless, while others feel wonderfully whimsical. How did you and Ellison Studios strike a balance between sophisticated design and playful personality?

This is why I fell in love with Ellison Studios – because each piece feels sophisticated and timeless while also being truly liveable and comfortable – with personality and charm to boot! It’s so hard to find furniture like that. I feel my essence is truly reflected in these pieces so it was really a match made in heaven. Ellison Studios and I are kindred spirits in that we are both Aussies that spend a lot of time in LA and NY too – you can definitely feel the Californian influences in the light oak in the bedroom and the loft style living room with rich, warm, eclectic styles.

Now that you’ve lived in the space, what part of your home brings you the most joy – or feels the most “you”?

To have a space that I can call my own with furniture and art that reflects my personality is such a dream come true. I’m constantly overwhelmed by gratitude to be surrounded and supported by pieces that I genuinely love and to get to share with my people. The communal, vibrant energy of the living room, the peaceful oasis of the bedroom – it’s just heaven. If I had to tag myself, I’d say I’m probably the Muse Sofa because I’m soft like a marshmallow and big enough to fit three people.

In typical Capricorn fashion (we are known as the oldest of the astrological signs) I am a lover and collector of items from the past. I like to keep things forever and expect them to last for longer. Artefacts that in the eyes of others have seen better days, can make a home with me. From time to time though I do covet the new and the fresh and these are the pieces by modern Australian design brands that make the wish list.

The Alma by Armadillo

Crafted from a cut Persian knot using a silk and wool blend, nothing feels more luxurious than this ultra-low pile rug. Each piece is one of a kind and develops its own patina thanks to an oxidation process creating inimitable colouration. I adore the calming palette and the way this piece is instantly recognisable for its luminosity alone.

The Johnson Modular by MCM House

Did we see Charles Hinckfuss from MCM House becoming a modern Australian design icon? This new collection called Club Cabana captures the essence of laid-back luxury with new materials like brushed stainless steel and rich blue upholstery. The collection is another crowd pleaser with the Johnson modular sofa bringing effortless comfort and the Australian outdoor lifestyle attitude inside.

Puzzle Tiberio Coffee Table by Sten

Sten Galleria has launched just this year but their pieces crafted by artisans in Melbourne hit home in the right way. Using repurposed Italian Tiberio offcuts I love the simplicity of this tessellated coffee table that doesn’t feel like an imposition in a tight room but is just the right size for ones books and a coffee cup.

Blankets by Bemboka

Undeniably my greatest indulgence. With roots tracing back to a knitting factory in Australia that has been producing textile goods since the 60s, Bemboka (translates as high peak in local Indigenous language). The emphasis here is on luxury fibres – superfine merino, cashmere, pure cotton – all crafted with a sustainable mindset. The the angora and merino wool blankets earn their place on my bed all all year around but the cotton for summer months still feels as luxe. Always in the most classic tones, these are stealth luxury, or in other words The Row of the blanket world.

Modular shelving by Skupa

My habit of collecting books means I spend a lot of time thinking about bookshelves and I recently discovered Skupa for an easy modular system with metal shelves that feels on the right side of mid-century design inspiration. These are Australian designed and made and translate in a room as low key but give high quality, functional design.

The AirTable by Jigsaw House

Designed in Melbourne by two brothers this portable table reminds me of the vinyl card tables of my childhood that surely broke every design rule seemed to be assembled with ease at any given moment for an impromptu picnic or, as it would turn out, card game. This modern day equivalent (albeit considerably more chic in Yves Klein blue) is made from Japanese engineered foam and aluminium and rubber. It’s the pack-down table you won’t want to pack down.

Benvenuti Plate by Alex and Trahanas

While this lifestyle project from Alexandra Heard and Heleena Trahanas has been founded on bringing to life their love of Mediterranean summer it could be said that their plates are nowhere better suited than on the family style tables of Sydney-siders where the brand is based. I love the casual understated tone of these ceramic plates in chocolate.

December always brings our attention back to home. Between hosting, reorganising and settling into the slower days ahead, we’ve been thinking about the furniture and homewares we’re genuinely coveting this month. Across the team, a clear pattern emerges – pieces that feel useful, well-made and worth having in our spaces right now.

During my usual TikTok doomscroll, I came across my dream dining room situation (as pictured to the left above), and am now on the hunt to recreate in my own home. I already own a stainless steel side table in my living room, so bringing this material into my dining room feels natural. I discovered a miracle find on 1stDibs for these Chippensteeel 0.5 Chairs by Zieta, in polished stainless steel, which would be an absolute dream.

As for dining tables, MCM House’s new Club Cabana has so many options to choose from. I love the rectangular orientation of the Bossi Rectangular Dining Table and the detailing in the legs, but on the other hand, can’t get over the colour and intrigue of the Olay Round Dining Table. Decisions decisions.

Of course, there’s still decorations to consider, and while I haven’t found the perfect artwork yet (which might call for a weekend walking around the galleries very soon), I did find this Louise Roe vase, which I would pair with an iconic Dinosaur Designs Branch Bowl.

Digital Strategy Director & Associate Publisher

I have a fair few entertaining-at-home affairs planned over the summer. Thus, I’m making sure I’m prepared now so I’m not scrambling for tableware the days before. I really love the new ceramics at Saarde and I think this serving bowl is perfect for what I need this summer. I love the pattern. I always use tablecloths over placemats when I have people around and I would really love this Maison Balzac sunprint one or this elegant Cultiver one for Christmas (hopefully Santa reads this?).

I love this silverware set from Mesa Collections for serving. I’m down to my second last stick of this Aesop incense so I will top up, it’s my fourth box, I’m addicted.

And finally – not something I’m buying as I own them – people always ask where I got my favourite black candle sticks from. I bought mine years ago, but you can get almost identical ones from Net-a-Porter.

My mind has been on all things kitchen for homewares this month, which is hardly shocking, given hosting season. I was gifted this Fridays From The Garden cookbook by Flamingo Estate and I can genuinely say I haven’t been as excited by a cookbook like this in so long. This cookbook is my new favourite and I cannot wait to make my way through its recipes from now and into 2026.

This Lobster Platter and Hand Cake Server from Maison Balzac are in my cart (obsessed), and this French Flax Linen Ruffles Table Cloth from I Love Linen is a great base for holiday table scapes.

These Gohar World Off-White Dove Salad Servers are beautiful and are on my Christmas wishlist, along with Rachel Donath’s Grace Counter Stools. And I am very excited for some luxurious holiday refreshments, courtesy of TENUTA SANT’ANNA Prosecco Rosé DOC. Delicious.

Outdoor festivities are the best festivities in my opinion, especially in Australian summer. I have these Nanoleaf outdoor lights in the post, and will be hanging them in my backyard over my lawn – such a mood-setter for dinner parties.

Lastly, this Mesa Tray – Forest Brown Marble from RJ Living will be the new home for my keys. And I’m in need of a sofa bed that is chic and comfortable, so I’m looking at the Eva Slideaway Sofa Bed in Oatmeal. Love that the fabrication is 100% french linen.

Features and Production Editor

To My Shops Of The Gods Hand Soap – I recently visited Carnation Canteen in Fitzroy and they had this hand soap in the bathroom. I’m not exaggerating when I say it was the best thing I’ve ever smelled in my life.

My current (cheap) set of cutlery is finally on its last legs after serving me well across multiple share houses – I’m wondering if it’s time to finally invest in my dream set of flatware from Sabre’s Bistro collection? Right now my apartment smells like Santa Maria Novella’s Armenia Paper – the perfect home scent and what The Row burn in their boutiques, in case you were wondering.

And what home is complete without some vino to enjoy under its roof? Right now I’m eyeing off this ‘Taste the Symphony’ Gift Pack by HandPicked Wines.

Sophia Serafin

Implementation Manager

No doubt we’re all seeking a sense of calm in the most chaotic month of the year. I’m personally gravitating towards grounding colour palettes and little luxuries that soothe amidst the madness.

I’ll be ordering my favourite wine, Momento Mori from Winona Wines – and maybe picking up a few stocking-stuffers from their Objects selection. I’m also a big fan of Mecca coffee in Paddington, so am planning to integrate their beans into my daily ritual.

Lee Mathews has the sweetest gifting edit at the moment, and I’m planning to treat myself to a simple oak pepper mill and a new toothbrush while I’m there – instant elevation for the everyday.

A few more things I’m eyeing – a Tanchen stool for the living room, these frilly pillowcases, and a ceramic candle from the Provider Store (which you can have refilled or even turn into a mug, making it feel that little bit more special).

Alys Hale

Music Editor and Creative Producer

How much are we all looking forward to some much needed time at home? This year has been so huge and whilst I want to adventure across the coast I am so in need of a short staycation and giving my home a little love. I would love to get an outdoor dining table so I can dine alfresco on those long hot nights. I have some steel furniture so Fleur Studio’s SS-DIN03BR 100 could be the perfect addition, I tend to collect pieces when I see something I love, rather than invest in sets.

I also need to use the break to get organised and this Mustard Made Midi Locker would be great for hiding all the home office clutter that one needs but doesn’t want to see after 6pm. Byredo’s Bibliotechque is my forever home fragrance, and I would love to have one burning by the bookcases all summer.

My kitten and I have been in discussions. He is pushing that we get a sofa for him to luxuriate on, rather than just arm chairs. The Cameleonda came up. However, it will most likely be me finding something strange at Lawsons.

Aleks Beare

Brand Art Director

I love this time of year…summer and celebrations. With family and friends dropping by, there is always something to ‘cheers’ and I have my eye on these RIEDEL coupe glasses which are perfect for cocktails, and for celebrating with some Dom Pérignon.

These Citta beach towels retro vibe are going to look great with time spent by the pool. And speaking of retro vibes, I’m loving this Jojo lamp for the bedside. And it’s probably a good time to refresh my dog Gus’ bed, and this Henri dog bed looks perfect for summer snoozing.

Jaime Carmody

Digital Marketing Specialist

December always becomes the month of hosting (which I love!) and with hosting comes the inevitable urge to elevate my tablescape. These serving plates from Dinosaur Designs are my go to for entertaining or for a random ‘girl dinner’. I’m also loving these Fazeek coupes; they’re not only perfect for the festive season but year round hosting alike.

Lately I’ve been on the hunt for new lighting, and this chrome lamp feels like the perfect addition to my current style. I’m equally obsessed with this chrome coffee mug and this aluminium pepper mill. These tiny upgrades make the everyday feel more considered. I’ve also been intrigued by the idea of adding this cobalt blue rug to my living room. Honestly, the fact that it is machine washable is a serious bonus.

To round things out, I’ve been wanting to elevate my evening routine from a little luxury from Lesse- this towel and gua sha are the perfect additions to my bathroom.
