The post Rihanna just hinted at the release of R9 at the Met appeared first on RUSSH.

]]>
On the eve of the 2025 Met Gala, all eyes were on Rihanna — not just for her show-stopping entrance (in Marc Jacobs no less), but for the news she quietly revealed before even stepping onto the red carpet. Dressed in custom couture, the multi-hyphenate confirmed she’s expecting her third child, sending fans into a frenzy of both congratulations and speculation: what does this mean for R9, the singer’s long-awaited – almost mythical – ninth studio album?

BUT we now have a morsel more of information, direct from the source herself. Speaking to reporters on the Met steps yesterday, the singer opened up about how she’s feeling during her third pregnancy. “I’m good,” she shared. “Shockingly not too overwhelmed right now.”

When asked if the new baby might slow down her musical momentum, Rihanna was quick to reassure. “No,” she sang in response. “Maybe a few videos [might pause], but I could still sing.”

So there we have it. One thing is clear: R9 is not abandoned (and we’re already thinking about visuals… )

It’s been nearly a decade since Anti left its mark, and while Rihanna’s empire has expanded — from Fenty Beauty to Savage X, to motherhood itself — the question that always follows her is the same: “Where is the album?”

Back in 2020, Rihanna stoked excitement by suggesting the release was imminent. “Music is still my first love,” she said. “I can’t wait to put something out that I’m proud of.” Five years later, that moment has yet to arrive — though, according to Rihanna, the delay isn’t due to a lack of love for the craft.

Behind the scenes, the singer continues to juggle a global brand portfolio, family life, and the creative process. “I have to be on top of everything,” she’s said. “Music sometimes takes a backseat because of timelines and production for other projects — things people don’t always see.”

When will it be released?

No firm release date has been confirmed, but if there’s one thing Rihanna fans have learned, it’s patience. And if her past is any indication, when R9 does drop — it’ll be nothing short of iconic.

Kendrick’s Celine jeans and Rihannah’s Loewe jumpsuit: the Super Bowl Halftime performance is actually a fashion show https://www.russh.com/super-bowl-fashion-moments-throughout-history/ Mon, 10 Feb 2025 23:10:52 +0000 https://www.russh.com/?p=204333 Forgive me, but does anyone actually watch the Super Bowl for the football?

Forgive me, but does anyone actually watch the Super Bowl for the football? I mean, of course, NFL fans do. But I’m talking about the people who only just learned the term “tight end” thanks to Travis Kelce (and quite frankly, still find it a little ridiculous that it’s a real position). For the rest of us, the spectacle lies elsewhere – the halftime show, the commercials, the fashion. The proof? An estimated 117.3 million people tuned in yesterday, but I’d wager half were there for Kendrick’s Celine bootcut jeans than the score.

The Super Bowl halftime show is the Met Gala of sports, a playground for high-voltage styling. From Prince in a perfectly tailored turquoise suit to Beyoncé in DSquared2 channeling Michael Jackson, the fashion is as crucial as the setlist. As we reflect on this year’s Super Bowl fashion moments, we’re looking back at the most unforgettable style moments in Super Bowl halftime history.

Perhaps, the most notorious halftime outfit of all time. ICYMI: Janet Jackson and her stylist had engineered a wardrobe stunt, where the iconic Alexander McQueen bodysuit would be tugged to reveal a red corset underneath. Having not practiced the move and only informed of it on the day, Justin Timberlake pulled at her costume and exposed Jackson’s breast. Disgraced former CBS CEO Les Moonves was up in arms about the accident, and did his best to bar Jackson from industry events like the 2004 Grammys. All these years later, we can’t believe all the fuss. Janet is a queen.

Watch Rihanna hold court for Dior at Versailles in ‘J’adore, the film’ https://www.russh.com/jadore-dior-rihanna-ambassador/ Mon, 02 Sep 2024 04:00:41 +0000 https://www.russh.com/?p=218143 Rihanna X Dior Parfum. A fragrance match made in heaven.

The post Watch Rihanna hold court for Dior at Versailles in ‘J’adore, the film’ appeared first on RUSSH.

]]>
Parfums Christian Dior has received another incendiary, none other than the great Rihanna Fenty herself. We’re talking undisputed drip, beauty mogul, and conglomerate pop star, all in one. After a crackling launch of her latest hair line, Rihanna has been announced as the latest face of J’adore Dior. Though the album still remains a matter up in the air, there seems to be no shortage of ways the mogul has activated other realms of business through her own personal eye for beauty.

In her own words, Ri has echoed the same sentiments: “Being the new face of J’adore is both an honor and a mission. This scent, that I have known and loved for so long, means so much to women. I am especially looking forward to joining this adventure and contributing to it through my world, my story, my roots, as well as my creativity and my own femininity.”

Ri as the J’adore Woman…

The J’adore woman is full of bold daring, alluring wit, and liberated expression. Conveniently, so is Rihanna. Rihanna’s own life story is tangential to the legacy of the J’adore fragrance. With a fiercely independent outlook, Rihanna’s own empowered stance saturates every aspect of her work. The latest to be released in the rollout is an image of the Dior woman lensed by Stephen Klein, set against the buttery golds of Versailles. Our Ri is glowing in burnished bronze in a necklace designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri. J’adore.

Véronique Courtois, CEO Parfums Christian Dior says, “We are incredibly proud to welcome Rihanna into the Dior family. Her golden dream promises to be unique, reflecting a fragrance that is present for women, and retains its radiance. The unusual talent, audacity, and captivating beauty of this absolute star are the ideal embodiment of dazzling, powerful Dior femininity that transcends generations. Christian Dior would most definitely have adored her.”

When will the J’adore x Rihanna campaign launch?

Take a look at the trailer, below.

In honour of the launch of Fenty Hair, we look back at Rihanna’s best hairstyles over the years https://www.russh.com/rihanna-best-hairstyles/ Wed, 05 Jun 2024 00:02:40 +0000 https://www.russh.com/?p=216759 Fenty Hair has an exciting new entrant. This is Rihanna's hair evolution.

Rihanna: undisputed drip, beauty mogul, and conglomerate pop star, all in one. We can talk Rihanna all day. From her seamless style evolution to how ANTI has soundtracked most of our heartbreaks, to how we’ve been gnawing at our ends for her album to come to. Some day. What we must give credence to, however, is her hair journey. And from what we know, it’s only beginning. The singer has announced a new fleet of haircare – Fenty Hair – under the Fenty Beauty Family.

In her own words, Rihanna has been around the block and then some, saying: “I’ve had almost every texture, color, length, from weaves to braids to natural- so I am launching a flexible line of products for not only every hair want, but every single product is designed to strengthen and repair all types of hair, which is what we truly need! It’s time to play and get stronger by the style.”

Toted as a flexible line, Fenty Hair will encompass all hair textures and types. Rihanna is no stranger to experimenting with a multitude of hairstyles, from shade to length to cut. Below, we commemorate some of the crowning feats of gravity and hair that the singer/mother polymath has given us.

What everyone is wearing to Haute Couture Week for Spring 2024 https://www.russh.com/street-style-haute-couture-week-spring-2024/ Tue, 23 Jan 2024 12:19:39 +0000 https://www.russh.com/?p=203608 That's the magic of street style, with the right styling and attitude, everything has a time and place.

The post What everyone is wearing to Haute Couture Week for Spring 2024 appeared first on RUSSH.

]]>
January is a big month for many of the creative disciplines. As Hollywood primes itself for awards season, the fashion set flock to Paris to sit in for Haute Couture Week. So far, the Spring Summer 2024 season has delivered a knockout collection (as always) from Daniel Roseberry at Schiaparelli, and at Christian Dior, Maria Grazia Chiuri sifts through the archives, seeking inspiration in the French Maison’s 50s ball gowns and refashioning them with a quiet luxury twist. With the Oscars mere months away, we expect to see a handful of these styles worn on the red carpet.

As much as Haute Couture Week is about the meticulous designs rolling down the runway, one cannot ignore how the congregation of fashion industry stalwarts and friends alike makes for delicious people watching – especially if you’re as passionate about street style as we are. So what is everyone wearing to Haute Couture Fashion Week for Spring 2024?

The guest list for Schiaparelli includes the likes of Hunter Schafer, Zendaya, Natalia Vodianova and Karlie Kloss, all of who turned up and out in Roseberry’s distinctive designs for the house, recognisable by gilded accents and sculptural accessories. Later, at Christian Dior, the show was attended by Jeanne Damas and most notably Rihanna, who injected Maria Grazia Chiuri’s designs with an original and electric energy.

Against the backdrop of all the glamour of Haute Couture, the off duty style of models like Maggie Maurer and Bibi Breslin acted as a palette cleanser between shows, where they traded in the atelier’s most time-consuming and laborious garments for shearling flight jackets, trench coats and simple loafers.

That’s the magic of street style, with the right styling and attitude, everything has a time and place.

Find your dose of fashion inspiration off the runway and on the streets below, with the best street style captured at Haute Couture Week Spring 2024.

5 celebrity-owned fashion labels to know and love https://www.russh.com/best-celebrity-fashion-labels/ Wed, 25 Oct 2023 06:45:59 +0000 https://www.russh.com/?p=196612 From The Row to Stella McCartney, these designers have earned their stripes.

The post 5 celebrity-owned fashion labels to know and love appeared first on RUSSH.

]]>
Celebrity fashion labels come and they go. Just this morning, Kylie Jenner soft-launched her own brand Khy, while early in 2022, Alexa Chung announced the closure of her eponymous label after five years in the business. So what does it take for a celebrity-helmed to thrive? I bet the Olsen twins would have a great answer.

Below, RUSSH rounds up 5 celebrity fashion labels we hold in high esteem. From The Row to Stella McCartney, these designers have earned their stripes. We hope you love them just as much as we do.

THE ROW

Although many have tried, few have been able to replicate the success and special recipe at Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s revered label, The Row, which all began in pursuit of the perfect T-shirt. Quiet and understated, yet potent and commanding, The Row is for luxury uniforms – with a luxury price tag. The Olsen twins may not have any formal design training, however they’ve made up for it with year’s spent on set watching costume designers tailor entire wardrobes to fit their petite frames. The rest has been picked up with a little grit, determination and – we imagine, many cigarette breaks.

VICTORIA BECKHAM

Victoria Beckham has lived many lives, evolving from pop star to footballer’s wife, before arriving at her current career as a respected player in the realm of luxury fashion. Her clothes inhabit a similar space to The Row, Khaite, Lemaire and, when it eventually debuts, Phoebe Philo’s eponymous brand. With flagship stores in London and Hong Kong, Posh is really living up to her old nickname.

GUEST IN RESIDENCE

celebrity fashion labels

You could tack Gigi Hadid’s name to a safety pin, and people would show up in droves. What’s remarkable, is that the model chose not too, demonstrating the real intent behind her all-cashmere label, rather than relying on it as a cash cow. Although the knitwear label has been up and running for just over a year, it’s established itself for its quality and sustainability-first mindset. The fact that the clothing line is stylish, is just the cherry on top.

STELLA MCCARTNEY

celebrity fashion labels

Nowadays, most will know McCartney in her own right. But before the fashion designer’s fabled 1995 Central Saint Martins graduate show (in which 90s supers like Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell walked), she was a celebrity known in relation to her parent’s success. This is no longer the case, and in the years since McCartney has forged her own path defined by an unwavering commitment to sustainability and creating luxury fashion with a conscience.

SAVAGE X FENTY

celebrity fashion labels

We all know Rihanna exists on her own playing field. The musician, beauty mogul and designer has always played by her own rules. Nothing demonstrates this better than her lingerie brand, which she co-founded in 2018. While Rihanna may have stepped down earlier this year at its CEO, we can’t help but feel an immense gratitude for the brand’s existence. It came at a time when diversity was at an all time low and few saw themselves represented in any meaningful way. Instead of waiting for competitors like Victoria’s Secret to catch up, Savage X Fenty built its own lace-covered empire.

Rihanna is a tough act to follow, but somebody has to do it. That difficult task has fallen onto the shoulders of Usher, who is set to headline the Super Bowl Halftime Show in 2024. I hope his stylist is already pulling together an outfit to rival Ri’s Loewe jumpsuit. Trick question: it won’t.

“It’s an honor of a lifetime to finally check a Super Bowl performance off my bucket list. I can’t wait to bring the world a show unlike anything else they’ve seen from me before,” Usher said in a statement following the announcement. “Thank you to the fans and everyone who made this opportunity happen. I’ll see you real soon.”

Given that Rihanna’s Super Bowl performance was the most viewed Halftime Show in history, Usher is going to have to dig deep into his back catalogue to get nearly the same response. We’re talking 2004 Confessions era, bring out all the heartbreak hits – U Got it Bad, My Boo, Burn and when we’re comfortably depressed and in our feelings, lighten the mood with Love in this Club, Yeah!, I Need A Girl and perhaps a guest performance from will.i.am for OMG? Even then, Usher I hope you have a surprise pregnancy announcement, if not it’s time to get busy!!

Me When Usher plays ‘OMG’ at the Super Bowl pic.twitter.com/Im4bpw2ure

— bria celest (@55mmbae) September 24, 2023

Usher might not be pregnant in the literal sense, but he does have plans to drop his ninth album Coming Home and his first since 2016’s Hard II Love – to coincide with the Super Bowl performance.

For NFL laypeople, like myself, who have little reason to tune into the sporting event aside from this musical carrot on a string, the 2024 Halftime Show will take place on February 11, 2024 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas and will be presented by Apple Music for the second year running, after a decade of sponsorship by Pepsi.

Just know that I am here for the possibility of hearing Moving Mountains, and this fact alone. See you then!

It’s not an album, but we will be getting new music from Rihanna for the upcoming ‘Smurfs’ movie https://www.russh.com/rihanna-smurfs-music/ Fri, 28 Apr 2023 00:58:37 +0000 https://www.russh.com/?p=183403 It's not R9, but we're happy to hear it.

The post It’s not an album, but we will be getting new music from Rihanna for the upcoming ‘Smurfs’ movie appeared first on RUSSH.

]]>
When we spent the last few years begging on our knees for new music from Rihanna, I guess we had to be a little more specific about what we meant. However, the singer revealed at CinemaCon that she will be trying her hand at voice-acting in the role of Smurfette in the upcoming Smurfs movie, and is reportedly writing original music for the film. I mean, we were kind of hoping for R9, but honestly we’ll take whatever morsels of music we can get.

The forthcoming Paramount Animation film will be a follow-up to 2011’s The Smurfs (which starred Katy Perry as Smurfette) and 2017’s Smurfs: The Lost Village (that saw Demi Lovato take on the role of Smurfette), with Rihanna next in line to pick up the baton. Rihanna is also set to produce the film.

Smurfs will not the first time Rihanna has lent her vocal chops to a film either, having recently written and performed Lift Me Up, recorded for the blockbuster Marvel sequel Black Panther:Wakanda Forever. The single even saw the songstress nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Song. But this will be the first time she has taken part in an animated film, which she says has been a joy.

“Getting to do animation is a fun journey for me,” Rihanna said in an interview with IndieWire. “I’m usually front and centre with everything with my likeness… but this was fun, I got to imagine, I got to show up in my pajamas in my third trimester, and be a blue badass.”

When will the film be released?

The as-yet-untitled new Smurfs film is set to be released on 14 February 2025 (Valentine’s Day). So we unfortunately still have a while yet until we get to hear some fresh Ri-Ri tunes. Maybe there’s hope yet that we’ll get that elusive new album between now and then.

What the ‘RUSSH’ team are watching, reading and listening to in February https://www.russh.com/watch-read-listen-february-2023-recommendations/ Tue, 28 Feb 2023 23:04:28 +0000 https://www.russh.com/?p=179098 From new anime recommendations to Aretha Franklin and Björk.

Need fresh recommendations for music, books, film in February? The RUSSH editors have you covered. In February the team is making its way through the Awards Season nominations and our designer Teressia Carr is back with another anime movie. Bon Iver and Björk are coursing through our headphones, meanwhile it’s a month of memoirs with Edward Enninful and Patti Smith’s best sellers doing the rounds. Below, what the RUSSH editors are watching, reading and listening to in February 2023.

Hannah Cooper

Fashion Editor At Large

Watch… Triangle of Sadness. This film was equally grotesque and visually captivating and I LOVED it. So beautiful and strange.

Read… I always have a fiction and nonfiction on the go so I can choose either pending my mood. At the moment I’m reading Edward Enninful’s biography A Visible Man which is perfect for our Resilience issue, what a life! I’m also re-reading Agatha Christie’s The Body in the Library, I love a good trashy murder mystery.

Listen… Björk’s entire catalogue. There’s a Björk album for every mood.

Teressia Carr

Designer

Watch… Coming on here with my anime recommendation of the month. Weathering with You – you can find it on Netflix! Although sad and dramatic, I love the visuals Makoto Shinkai creates of rainy Tokyo city. Makes me feel cosy and equally gets me excited to travel there next month.

Read… My favourite read this month is actually one better suited to the coffee table. Hey You! Keep Going by Ellie Hopley (better known for her art and comic Instagram Shuturp) is an absolute burst of serotonin. The witty yet inspirational illustrations are highly relatable, and always a crowd-pleaser with any visitor. A flick through on my own never ceases to make me giggle. It’s the little things.

Listen… Rihanna’s 2023 Super Bowl megamix. Over and over and over again.

Olivia Repaci

Creative Studio and Campaigns Manager

february recommendations

Watch… American Horror Story. I’m a longtime fan of the AHS franchise, and there is nothing more satisfying for my dwindling attention span than a succinct 45 minute microdose of silly AHS horror to get the blood pumping.

Read… Just Kids by Patti Smith. Late to the party with this one, but this book feels like a time machine back to New York City’s golden era and I’m loving every page.

Listen… Bon Iver. I recently saw him in concert and my love of his peculiar genius has been revived.

Meg Nolan

Digital Operations Manager

february recommendations

Watch… Cruel Intentions: The 90s Musical. I was pretty dubious as to whether the musical could live up to the movie but I was very pleasantly surprised. If you’re in Melbourne between now and mid-March and have a penchant for musicals I would definitely recommend it.

Read… Honestly, bank terms and conditions. I’ve been doing a finance reshuffle and you probably should be too. If you’re someone who is working super hard to save your money but don’t regularly check to make sure you have it in the best high interest account(s) then this is your sign to go do your research. The Barefoot Investor is a good place to start if you’re feeling overwhelmed.

Listen… Aretha Franklin’s discography. I’ve always been an Aretha fan (how can you not be happy when you’re listening to soul) but after watching Respect (the 2021 biopic on her life) this weekend I have a renewed love for her and her music.

Jahlia Solomon

Digital Writer

february recommendations

Watch… Aftersun. That’s all.

Read… Do something nourishing for your brain and follow @poetryisnotaluxury on Instagram. There, you will find a delightful selection of poems to keep your mind fed and senses intrigued.

Listen… The algorithm gods did something right this time and served up this album by Σtella. The folky sub pop collection of songs are produced by Redinooldschool and are truly mesmerising. The two met in Athens, and you can hear that Greek influence woven throughout the album. Play the songs at your next backyard dinner party or degustation picnic.

Jasmine Pirovic

Arts & Culture Editor

february recommendations

Watch… I’m going to Thailand soon and I’ve been watching a lot of Andy Ricker and Mark Wiens YouTube videos for ideas in Chiang Mai. I also enjoyed The 50 Year Argument, where Martin Scorsese examines the history of The New York Times Book Review, and Lukas Dhont’s moving coming-of-age film Close.

Read… Everyone is talking about Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin, including my local bookseller. I bought the book on his recommendation and it’s a favourite for a reason. It follows Sadie and Sam who meet in a hospital gaming room and are united by an appetite for video games. I’m currently up to the section where the tables have turned and Sam is caring for Sadie after an icky breakup.

Listen… To Townes Van Zandt and sing your blue heart out. Podcast-wise, Pandora Sykes is dropping new episodes of Book Chat and Dolly Alderton has joined forces with Caroline O’Donoghue again on Sentimental Garbage to discuss Runaway Bride. In case you still long for The High Low.

Ella O’Keeffe

Fashion & Brand Features Editor

Watch… I finally watched Pamela, A Love Story, and it did not disappoint. Seeing Pamela sit in her truth and tell her own story was as liberating as it was emotional.

Read… I’d love to say that I’ve been reading anything but press releases off the back of shows, but being in the midst of fashion week, this is unfortunately all I’ve had time to read “cover to cover” this month.

Listen… Charli XCX’s Welcome to my Island remix is the anthem of Pride month. No ifs, ands, or buts!

Rihanna’s Super Bowl Halftime performance just took place, and we are quaking in our boots at what we’ve just witnessed. Floating in the air? Some of her best hits (save for the Pon de Replay snub)? A potential pregnancy announcement? Twitter is broken because of her, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. This was her first concert in 7 years, and we need – and I cannot stress this enough – ample time to recover from her performance where she had people play football on either side of the show to bulk it up!! So neat of her. While people are making memes about poor old Drake and speculating if she just dropped the announcement of baby A$AP #2, one question remains on the RUSSH team’s lips: what was Rihanna wearing at her Super Bowl Halftime Performance?

The answer is Loewe! Among other things. According to Jonathan Anderson himself, Rihanna wore a red Loewe jumpsuit and bustier by the Spanish brand. The jumpsuit, which was made out of a canvas cotton material, was unzipped to expose a shiny moulded red bustier and red turtleneck. She paired the look with red Maison Margiela X Salomon sneakers, a red lip, red nail polish, and a puffy coat by Alaïa. Imagine if she’d thrown on a pair of those Astro Boy boots?

Later in the show, as she rose into the air on a levitating clear platform, she subbed out her short Alaïa coat for a longer piece by the same brand, reminiscent of André Leon Talley’s infamous red Norma Kamali blanket coat, which felt like a subtle but powerful tribute to the late fashion heavyweight.

As we continue to recover from the show, we’re rounding up the best Twitter reactions from her jaw-dropping performance, here. Just in case you wanted to spend the rest of the day thinking about this moment with the rest of us. Let us savour this rare moment for as long as possible.
