New York’s West Village is about to get even more cinematic – and culinary. Film studio A24, known for its cult-favourite movies like Everything Everywhere All at Once and Babygirl, has taken over the historic Cherry Lane Theatre on Commerce Street. While the theatre has long been a haven for avant-garde plays and cultural experimentation, its 2025 reboot will add an unexpected twist: a full-service restaurant and bar called ‘Wild Cherry’, run by two of New York’s most celebrated chefs.

Your first look inside Wild Cherry

The Frenchette team takes the stage

Chefs Riad Nasr and Lee Hanson, the powerhouse duo behind Frenchette, Le Rock, and the recently revived Le Veau d’Or, are spearheading the dining project inside the Cherry Lane’s lobby.

Known for blending historic charm with modern French cooking, the pair is set to create an intimate, 60-seat restaurant that elevates the “dinner and a show” experience. Guests will be able to settle in before curtain call and linger with cocktails long after the final bow.

This isn’t the team’s first time pairing fine dining with the arts. Their Frenchette Bakery at the Whitney Museum already showed how well their food plays in cultural spaces. At Cherry Lane, expect timeless French-inspired menus that nod to history without feeling dated – think duck rillettes before your screening instead of popcorn.

Why does everyone want a table?

With A24 involved, this is more than just a pre-theatre bistro. The studio has already tested the waters of hospitality with its own branded chocolate bars, and its takeover of the Cherry Lane signals a vision far beyond film screenings. A chef-driven bar and restaurant transforms the venue into a clubhouse-style destination, where cinephiles, theatregoers, and food lovers intersect.

Given the pedigree of both A24 and the Frenchette team, demand will be high. Much like Frenchette itself, which remains one of NYC’s toughest reservations, securing a spot at Cherry Lane’s restaurant won’t be as simple as walking in.

How to book a table

While reservations aren’t open yet (the restaurant is slated to launch in the next two months), here are a few tips to get ahead of the inevitable rush:

1. Stay updated via Instagram

Follow both Cherry Lane Theatre and Frenchette on social media for up-to-the-minute updates. Openings at this level are often announced to loyal followers first.

2. Check Cherry Lane’s upcoming programming

Given that the restaurant is open to theatre-goers before shows, you’re more likely to snag a spot if you’re getting tickets. It’s looking like bundled dinner reservations may be offered as part of the experience.

A new era for The Roxy Hotel, where jazz, cinema, and café culture collide https://www.russh.com/the-roxy-hotel-new-york/ Fri, 31 Oct 2025 00:30:05 +0000 https://www.russh.com/?p=268646 There are few places in New York that have the same creative charge as The Roxy.

There are few places in New York that have the same creative charge as The Roxy. The red-bricked, triangular landmark in the heart of Tribeca has long been a sanctuary for musicians, filmmakers, artists, and just about anyone who leads a creative life.

It’s a space not only steeped in history – of the art, chaos, and glamour of New York in decades gone by – but one that somehow keeps reimagining what it means to be downtown. This kind of energy has long been embedded not only in the hotel, but in the neighbourhood itself. Just steps away from where The Roxy now stands, in 1978, the Mudd Club was once the nexus of the city’s underground music and art scene with a gallery curated by Keith Haring.

Now, The Roxy Hotel is entering its next act with the opening of The Roxy Café, a new all-day destination that sits at the intersection of old-world theatre and modern indulgence. Mornings begin with espresso and sunlight spilling through the atrium, while evenings hum with the low thrum of conversation and clinking glasses. The café feels quintessentially Roxy – a place where the boundaries blur between locals and travellers, artists and admirers.

Just a floor below, The Django is the hotel’s subterranean jazz club, which continues to perfect its own rhythm. Modelled after the boîtes of Paris, the space is about as moody and chic as they come. This season, it launches a new Sunday Matinee program, bringing a fresh dimension to the venue’s already electric seven-night lineup.

roxy

Every Sunday from 2:30pm until 4pm., as the city above hums with errands and brunch reservations, The Django opens its doors to an underground escape. Ensembles like the Emily Braden Quartet or the Loston Harris Trio fill the room with a sound that feels transportive – part Paris, part New York, entirely timeless. Complimenting it all are drinks served ceremoniously – whether it’s a mimosa or a coffee that takes your fancy – and a menu spanning crab cakes, a sprawling cheese board, and a Paris-meets-New York burger with pommes frites.

And for those who prefer their stories on screen, The Roxy Cinema remains one of Manhattan’s best-kept treasures — a jewel box Art Deco theatre screening independent gems, 35mm classics, and rare archival prints. You’ll want to linger here long after the credits roll, with a popcorn in one hand, and a craft cocktail in the other.

Together, The Roxy Café, The Django, and The Roxy Cinema make up a kind of cultural trifecta — a celebration of the city’s artistry in motion. In a neighbourhood built on reinvention, The Roxy doesn’t just keep up with New York’s rhythm – it sets it.

CHANEL Métiers d’Art is returning to the Big Apple https://www.russh.com/chanel-metiers-dart-show-new-york-city/ Thu, 17 Jul 2025 22:41:09 +0000 https://www.russh.com/?p=257879 It marks CHANEL’s return to the Big Apple for the first time since Karl Lagerfeld’s legendary final show in 2018.

The post CHANEL Métiers d’Art is returning to the Big Apple appeared first on RUSSH.

]]>
CHANEL is heading back to New York City – and it’s not just any show. Later this year, we’ll bear witness to new creative director Matthieu Blazy’s debut Métiers d’Art collection for the iconic French house, marking CHANEL’s return to the Big Apple for the first time since Karl Lagerfeld’s legendary final show in 2018.

“It was Karl’s last show, so we always get a little nostalgic,” said Bruno Pavlovsky, President of CHANEL, in a recent interview with WWD. “But going back to New York with Matthieu and the beginning of a new season is super exciting.”

And exciting it is. Not only does this show promise to honour the House’s heritage, but it also marks the beginning of a fresh chapter for CHANEL.

When and where will it be held?

There isn’t an exact date set for the show yet, and details about the exact venue are still under wraps, but one thing’s for sure: all eyes will be on CHANEL’s return to the city that never sleeps — and the man now steering its creative vision.

What is the Métiers d’Art collection?

For those unfamiliar, the Métiers d’Art collection is where CHANEL goes all-in on craftsmanship, showcasing the extraordinary work of its artisan ateliers. ThinkL embroidery, beading, and tailoring at their most intricate. It’s a celebration of the artistry that makes CHANEL, well, CHANEL.

What do we expect from Blazy?

Now, with Blazy at the helm, expectations are high. He’s stepping into the spotlight following Virginie Viard’s departure, and he’s bringing a very personal connection to the city. Blazy spent years in New York, working under Raf Simons at Calvin Klein, and knows how to tap into the city’s raw creative energy. And of course, his most recent years at the helm of Bottega Veneta couldn’t be described as anything other than a hit.

Since its founding in the early 2000s by Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal, the Tribeca Film Festival has stood tall as a cultural pillar — championing bold storytelling across film, music and art. Now in its 23rd year, the 2025 edition will unfold across lower Manhattan from 4–15 June 2025, spotlighting emerging voices and established icons alike.

With its roots in independent cinema and a growing appetite for music-led premieres, the festival has become a magnet for cultural tastemakers and cinematic risk-takers — and this year’s lineup is no exception. Below, these are the titles on the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival lineup that we think you shouldn’t miss.

Something Beautiful

Fashion’s chaos queen Julia Fox co-stars in The Trainer, a frenetic satire from director Tony Kaye (of American History X fame), following a delusional muscleman trying to make it big on late-night TV. Also featuring Paris Hilton and Lenny Kravitz — need we say more?

New York moves fast, but Natasha Veenhuizen kept pace. Touching down in the city for the 2025 We Wear Australian x Australia Post activation, the designer and director of Van Der Kooij sent postcards home – snapshots of a week filled with creativity, collaboration, and the electric pulse of Soho.

Selected alongside 11 other Australian designers, it was a milestone moment for her sustainability-focused brand. The lead-up was a whirlwind of final adjustments, but once the doors opened, the energy was undeniable. Late-night walks through the city, impromptu magazine store visits, and quiet moments with her designs on display under the city lights – these were the details she captured between the rush, weaving together a New York story of fashion, inspiration, and the thrill of being part of something bigger.

The excitement and anticipation was high as we prepped for New York. It was all hands-on deck—final tweaks and last-minute adjustments to the outfits kept me on my toes. As a sustainable, emerging brand to be chosen alongside 11 other Australian designers to be a part of the We Wear Australian x Australia Post activation brings an immense sense of pride and anticipation.

The journey began with the typical pre-launch jitters. I touched down in New York and hit the ground running. Last-minute finishing touches and tweaks on outfits kept me busy as I prepared for the activation.

I was thrilled to be part of such a vibrant and talented group of designers with the We Wear Australia team. We bumped into the venue together, and the energy was electric as we set up and brought the vision to life.

Jetlag hit hard, but I found solace in late-night walks through the city. I wandered the streets, visiting magazine stores, heading to our fave Bleecker St film lab, and popping past the activation to see our Franka Gown on show before the doors open — it was a beautiful sight under the city lights. These moments of stillness were a quiet contrast to the fast-paced energy of NYC.

Showcasing alongside Karina (Relax Remade) and Kaylene (Wah Wah) was such a beautiful experience, and we were excited to collaborate on a photoshoot. Scheduled following the biggest dump of snow of the season meant our model braved the cold like a champion.

The crisp winter air added a layer of magic to the shoot, and the snow-covered streets made for a stunning backdrop. Walking through the neighbourhoods of New York also offered constant inspiration—the diversity, the architecture, and the hustle and bustle of the city were always captivating.

After the intensity of the pop-up, I took some time to unwind. A day off in the city led me to an unexpected find: a Pacer store (every kind of mechanical pencil you could dream of), clearly one of my personal obsessions.

Ready to indulge in some retail therapy I jumped on the subway and made my way to Brooklyn for some vintage shopping. Thank you Freddie Fredricks for the recs… the finds were extraordinary! Stopping at the infamous Birds of a Feather for lunch.

As my time in New York came to a close, I squeezed in a quick visit to MoMA to soak in some art before the final event of the trip—a beautiful wrap dinner hosted by Australia Post at Alba for all the We Wear Australia designers. It was the perfect way to end the trip, surrounded by like-minded creatives and the undeniable magic of New York.

All the runway trends we’ve spotted at New York Fashion Week FW25 https://www.russh.com/nyfw-fw25-trends/ Fri, 14 Feb 2025 00:11:27 +0000 https://www.russh.com/?p=242357 From slouchy sequins to fluffy bag charms.

The post All the runway trends we’ve spotted at New York Fashion Week FW25 appeared first on RUSSH.

]]>
The Fall Winter 2025 runways at NYFW proved one thing: fashion is leaning into contrast.

Precision meets playfulness, tailoring collides with texture, and glamour gets a slouchy new attitude. Vests are back in rotation, layered and oversized or sharply structured, bridging the gap between classic suiting and modern ease. Sequins trade stiffness for softness, shimmering across relaxed silhouettes that blur the line between loungewear and nightlife. Pinstripes break free from boardrooms, showing up on unexpected silhouettes, while outerwear tightens its grip – literally – with cinched waists shaping coats into statement pieces. And for the final flourish? Fluffy bag charms add a dose of humour and indulgence, proving that this season’s style is as much about personality as it is polish.

We’re only just at the starting line, but these are the trends we’re spotting across NYFW FW25 runways this week:

Vests

Vests at NYFW FW25.Left: Tia Adeola FW25. Right: Coach FW25.

Vests have made a significant comeback, featured prominently in various collections. Designers are showcasing them in both tailored and relaxed silhouettes, often layered over shirts or dresses. This versatile piece adds depth to outfits, serving as a statement item or a complementary layer. The resurgence of vests highlights a blend of classic tailoring with contemporary styling.

Slouchy sequins

Slouchy sequins at NYFW FW25.Left: TWP FW25. Right: Coach FW25.

Sequins are no longer confined to structured evening wear; the runways are embracing slouchy, relaxed sequinned pieces. Designers are pairing sequins with loose-fitting garments like oversized sweaters and baggy pants, creating a casual yet glamorous aesthetic. This trend reflects a shift towards comfort without sacrificing sparkle, making sequins suitable for both day and night ensembles.

Pinstripes

Pinstripes at NYFW FW25.Left: TWP FW25. Right: Carolina Herrera FW25.

Pinstripes are being reimagined beyond traditional suiting, appearing in unexpected forms such as dresses, skirts, and even accessories. Designers are playing with the scale and direction of stripes, offering a fresh take on this classic pattern. The modern use of pinstripes adds a sophisticated yet edgy element to various outfits, bridging the gap between formal and casual wear.

Cinched-waist outerwear

Cinched-waist outerwear at NYFW FW25.Left: TWP FW25. Right: Carolina Herrera FW25.

Outerwear with cinched waists is gaining attention, emphasising the silhouette and adding a feminine touch to coats and jackets. Designers are utilising belts, scarfs, and tailored cuts to create defined waistlines in outerwear pieces. This approach not only enhances shape but also brings a polished look to functional garments, balancing practicality with style.

Fluffy bag charms

Fluffy bag charms at NYFW FW25.Left: UI:Kin FW25. Right: Coach FW25.

Last NYFW Coach coined the bag charm – a trend we’re yet to escape the clutches of. And this year, the New York-based label doubled down, but with a playful update. Fluffy bag charms have quickly become a whimsical adornment, and are being attached to various bag styles, from totes to clutches, adding texture and personality. The trend infuses a sense of fun into accessories, allowing for personal expression and a touch of luxury in everyday items.

Corporate Core

Corporate CoreLeft: Calvin Klein FW25. Right: Michael Kors FW25.

Michael Kors led the charge with sharply tailored blazers, midi skirts, and classic trench coats in muted tones, creating a sense of polished power dressing. At Prabal Gurung, crisp button-downs were paired with fluid trousers, balancing corporate sophistication with effortless drape. Tory Burch infused the look with modern minimalism—pencil skirts with asymmetrical hems and structured knitwear softened by slouchy silhouettes. And of course Calvin Klein dominating this trend.

Grunge

Left: Coach FW25. Right: Collina Strada FW25.

There was reimagined ‘90s anti-fashion with a contemporary edge. Collina Strada and Coach led the charge, showcasing slouchy sweaters, distressed knits, and layered vintage tees, that created an effortless rebellion. Sandy Liang softened the aesthetic with metallic slip dresses under oversized cardigans, while Anna Sui leaned into dark florals and babydoll dresses paired with chunky boots. This season’s grunge blends chaos with craftsmanship to create a look that feels raw, lived-in, and undeniably cool.

Exaggerated Proportions

Left: Marc Jacobs SS 25. Right: Thom Browne FW25.

Marc Jacobs, while technically not in the Fall Winter schedule, led the charge with sculptural silhouettes, puffed-out sleeves, dramatically oversized coats, and cinched waists accentuating the exaggerated forms. The collection played with a sense of surreal scale, transforming traditional tailoring into wearable art. Thom Browne also explored outsized shapes, showcasing structured yet dramatically enlarged blazers and coats, some featuring exaggerated shoulder lines and elongated hemlines, reinforcing his signature take on proportion play with tartan and tweed.

Flora an Fauna

Left: Luar FW25. Right: Kim Shui FW25.

Designers channeled nature’s raw beauty through fur, animal prints, and symbolic motifs. Bold leopard coats added a rebellious edge, while plush fur—both real and faux dominated outerwear, from Luar’s statement coats to Kim Shui’s snake skin pants. Thom Browne embraced bird symbolism with avian-inspired tailoring and an ethereal runway adorned with origami birds, reinforcing themes of freedom and fantasy.

The full-length trailer for Timothée Chalamet’s Bob Dylan biopic has just dropped https://www.russh.com/timothee-chalamet-bob-dylan/ Tue, 08 Oct 2024 20:55:30 +0000 https://www.russh.com/?p=109652 Elle Fanning is set to join the cast as Chalamet's love interest, Sylvie Russo, a university student and artist.

The post The full-length trailer for Timothée Chalamet’s Bob Dylan biopic has just dropped appeared first on RUSSH.

]]>
While we try and digest his performance on Paul Atreides in Dune: Part Two (and the looks that were served on the accompanying press tour), we’ve been blessed with even more Timothée Chalamet film news today. We’ve waited for this day for years – the day we finally get to see the Oscar-nominated actor on set as music legend, Bob Dylan, in the upcoming biopic film newly re-christened: A Complete Unknown.

After four years of delays (the project was originally announced and signed off on by Dylan himself in 2020), we now have a more definitive timeline for when we might expect to see the project reach cinemas.

Watch the trailer below

After much anticipation, we have finally received our first-look at the full-length trailer for A Complete Unknown. Watch the just-dropped trailer, below.

First look at Chalamet on set

In photos obtained by outlets in the U.S., Chalamet is seen in a fittingly Dylan-esque ensemble on set, complete with faded bluejeans, rucksack, train cap and of course, a worn guitar case in hand.

A post shared by Viral Pop Culture (@viralpopculture)

What’s A Complete Unknown about?

The film’s director, James Mangold – who worked on cultural classics like Girl, Interrupted and Walk The Line – has said that A Complete Unknown isn’t really a Bob Dylan biopic, but instead about “a very specific moment” in the 1960s folk scene of New York City.

“It’s a kind of ensemble piece about this moment in time, the early ’60s in New York, and this 17-year-old kid with $16 in his pockets hitchhikes his way to New York to meet Woody Guthrie who is in the hospital and is dying of a nerve disease,” said Mangold on an episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast. “He sings Woody a song that he wrote for him and befriends Pete Seeger, who is like a son to Woody, and Pete sets him up with gigs at local clubs and there you meet Joan Baez and all these other people who are part of this world.”

The film and filmmakers’ avoidance of calling itself a biopic is one of the reasons that the real Bob Dylan has apparently been “so supportive of us making it”.

“I have a script that’s personally annotated by him [Dylan] and treasured by me,” continued Mangold, “He loves movies. The first time I sat down with Bob, one of the first things he said to me was, ‘I love Cop Land.” (Cop Land was Mangold’s sophomore directorial project.)

The best part of all though? The filmmakers have received the green light from Bob Dylan and the rights to use his music.

Who is cast in A Complete Unknown?

Excitingly, A Complete Unknown sees Elle Fanning reunite with Chalamet on screen, joining the cast as Dylan’s love interest, Sylvie Russo, a university student and artist. The two previously starred alongside each other in Woody Allen’s 2016 film, A Rainy Day In New York. It’ll be nice to see Chalamet and Fanning once more (but under the direction of a less problematic director, and in a film that might actually see a full cinema release).

Leading duo of Chalamet and Fanning aside, we also know that Benedict Cumberbatch plays American folk singer and social activist Pete Seeger. Top Gun: Maverick‘s Monica Barbaro also has a role, as folk singer Joan Baez.

When will A Complete Unknown be released?

Years of delays aside, the film finally has release date. While filming for A Complete Unknown was originally set to begin in August, 2023, the SAG-AFTRA strike meant this was delayed. The film will be released in cinemas on December 25, 2024.

Artist Benedict dos Remedios is set to unveil a new chapter in his creative journey with an upcoming art show “Friends with Benefits” at Saturdays NYC on Crosby Street in Soho, New York City. This event marks a special collaboration between the artist and the brand, celebrating not only his work but also the launch of a capsule collection of six apparel styles. In addition to the Soho location, this collection will also be available at Saturdays NYC in Bondi Beach, Sydney.

“We’ve known Benedict nearly as long as our brand has been established,” says Colin Tunstall of Saturdays NYC. “When we first opened, it seemed Australians in the city were naturally drawn to us. We’ve watched Benedict evolve into new artistic realms, and it felt only right to invite him to create pieces that connect us to our roots.”

Dos Remedios is no stranger to acclaim. His work, which explores themes of nature, deception, and beauty in the context of our digitised world, was recently showcased as a finalist in the prestigious Sir John Sulman Prize at the Art Gallery of New South Wales. His bold, graphic, and sculptural forms – often inspired by natural elements – have captivated collectors across Sydney, London, New York, and Barcelona.

His latest paintings, which will be on display at Saturdays NYC, play with colour, movement, and pattern. Bright airbrushed hues fade seamlessly into acrylic and gouache strokes, blending realism and abstraction in a way that’s uniquely his. This latest collection is a testament to his ability to push the boundaries of form, creating visually striking works that feel both modern and timeless.

Benedict dos Remedios’ “Friends With Benefits” show debuts at the Saturdays NYC gallery space on Thursday 26 September from 6-9pm.

NYFW street style is back in full swing, and the city’s sidewalks have once again become a runway of their own. This year, the eclecticism of NYFW street style speaks to an embrace of individuality, with show-goers and fashion enthusiasts weaving together retro influences and modern statements.

As per usual, bold colours and daring silhouettes dominate the scene. Pops of bright reds, yellows and brat-green are mixed with earthy tones like burnt orange and chocolate brown – but monochrome outfits also reign supreme, with head-to-toe white or black ensembles creating a polished look.

New Yorkers have a knack for elevating minimalist fashion, and this year, oversized blazers and structured tailoring are making a mark. The oversized suit – paired with a kitten heel or platform boot – is the new uniform for the style-conscious, while streetwear staples remain a cornerstone, but with a twist: cargo pants and baggy jeans are being paired with corset tops, bringing in a balance of casual and sultry.

Footwear, of course, is all about the extremes – knee-high boots battle it out with delicate, strappy heels. The adidas sambas remain among the crowd-favourite sneakers on display too.

Accessories are bolder than ever, with statement earrings, layered chains, and oversized sunglasses elevating even the simplest outfits. Micro-bags have beens swapped for more functional (and capacious) ones, while crossbody bags are making a comeback for the fashion-forward who favour function over form.

Below, we round up some of the best in NYFW street style for your sartorial consumption…
