1. KATSEYE x GAP

KATSEYE’s GAP ad only dropped six days ago, and yet it’s already raked up more than six million view on YouTube alone. Titled ‘Better in Denim,’ it features the full squad in a synchronised dance – perhaps a response to the recent American Eagle controversy? Maybe we’re reading into it a little too much …

2. Tyla x GAP

Who can forget this catchy-as-hell ad featuring songstress Tyla and the dance crew from Jungle’s iconic music video Back on 74? Set to the same tune, the cast recreate their now-famous video choreography and somehow, it’s even better than the original.

3. Kate Moss x Calvin Klein

Kate Moss in her prime. This ‘Casting Campaign’ series from Calvin Klein was one of the best.

4. Troye Sivan x Gap

When Troye dropped his Rush music video last year, it was iconic for so many reasons – not least of which was the eye catching choreo from Sergio Reis and CDK Company in the Netherlands. GAP brought the full team on board to redo the masterpiece for their ‘Get loose. Now live.’ campaign and of course, it did NOT disappoint.

5. Wrangler: Good Mornings Make for Better Days

Wrangler’s “Good Mornings Make for Better Days” campaign from 2024 (directed by Jake Scott) was their first global advertising campaign since 2021, and celebrated the spirit and optimism of the brand’s consumers breezing through the morning to the classic hit “Jeans On”.

6. Beyoncé x Levi’s

Beyoncé’s jeans ad was always going to be iconic. But we didn’t think it would be entering on a horse, leaving on a motorbike level iconic. This short film dedicated to showing off the new Levi’s Reimagined collection is a piece of art – and one that fits so aptly into the Cowboy Carter universe too. Marketing at its best.

If we look back, we owe the re-emergence of the denim skirt to the runways of SS22 and pre-fall SS23, solidifying its place as a staple in most closets since. Burberry showcased a vision of the simplistic blue mid-tone denim in its pre-fall SS22 collection. To heighten the allure of this 1970s iconic classic, the deliberate choice was made to embrace an all-encompassing denim ensemble from top to bottom. A simple yet affective runway reminder to the intricate details and superior foundations of how indispensable, yet iconic, the ubiquitous denim skirt can be.

You’ve seen their jeans plastered over billboards – hugging the hips of everyone from Brooke Shields to A$AP Rocky – so you know they’re the real deal. They’ve got you covered when it comes to staple essentials, or if you’re looking for something a little more daring.

If there are any markers of an era in fashion, it’s denim. The 70s saw mid-rise kick flares, the 80s – super skinny ribcage jeans, the 90s leaned into relaxed, high waisted light washes of good quality denim, and the 00s was devoted to the lowest rise possible. Just ask a young Keira Knightley. Lest we forget what came after… the skin tight mid-low-rise jean that the ‘jegging’ was born out of. Whatever happens, we’ll say a prayer that jeggings are not a part of the next revival, though at this point we are unable to hold our breath.

If, like me, you are not actually all that mad about low rise jeans and the way they have re-entered the trend cycle (which will naturally be a bit different/more modern than the last time they were on the scene), you’ve likely been browsing the internet for a pair. I have done the work for you, and rounded up our favourites at RUSSH. Hailey Bieber, Romeo Beckham Sonny Hall, Megan Miles and Anok Yai debuted are the faces in the stark campaign. Black and white imagery, reminiscent of rock and roll icons throughout the 70s, reminds us of the House’s identity. Continuing the theme, we see these scenes take centre stage with an exclusive 15 second campaign teaser starring Romeo Beckham, backdropped to the resounding sounds of Arsun‘s track Southern Winds.

Nostalgic, raw and both modern and timeless, the denim collection marries both the distressed with reworked classics. Carrying over stonewashed and vintage-inspired lines, the collection also includes a collegiate tweed blazer, monogrammed tulle jersey underwear, 70s blue trashed-denim destroyed jackets alongside raw hemmed denim shorts and jeans. Accessories follow the collection all the way through from a suede butterfly buckle belt to Saint Laurent’s Oversized Stirrup Pendant in Metal.

The Saint Laurent Denim 2021 campaign remains strong and compelling, shot and directed by another established Sorrenti, Gray Sorrenti. The newly announced face of Saint Laurent Fall Winter 2021 Romeo Beckham stars in the video, one that is soft, nostalgic and heavenly. While you’ll certainly be familiar with Ellery’s namesake label, you may not be as well acquainted with SLVRLAKE  – at least, not knowingly. Streets of your town. New York’s Harlem community have long been emblems of culture and style – a place rich in history and the hometown of such icons as Malcolm X, Langston Hughes and A$AP Rocky. It’s this neighbourhood that provides the backdrop for Lee Denim’s new Harlem Denim capsule collection. Inspired by the raw and authentic street style of 70s youth culture, the three-piece collection features the classic High Mom jean, the A-Line Lola skirt and the high-waisted Stevie short. Styled by Kate Carnegie, the campaign features a local NYC girl-gang who embody the bold, self-assured attitude intrinsic to the brand.
