14 Queensland holiday destinations to inspire your next holiday https://www.russh.com/queensland-holiday-destinations/ Fri, 19 Dec 2025 05:45:23 +0000 https://www.russh.com/?p=119452 From luxury hotels and sandy beaches to 190,000-year-old lava caves and the world's oldest rainforest - here's where to go in Queensland.

The post 14 Queensland holiday destinations to inspire your next holiday appeared first on RUSSH.

]]>
Queensland is named the Sunshine State for a reason. Some spots in this expansive state get up to 320 days of pleasantly sunny weather all year round. As such, it makes the perfect place for holiday makers to vacation.

Much of Queensland sits in the tropics and so it is home to some of the world’s most spectacular beaches and palm-tree lined islands. From the internationally famous Whitsundays, to the untouched Cape Tribulation, Queensland has a beachy destination to please just about everyone.

But there’s more too, think 190,000 year old lava caves, the world’s oldest rainforest and the biggest dinosaur fossil centre in the entire Southern Hemisphere. Keep reading to see 14 Queensland holiday destinations you’ll want on your bucket list.

Hayman Island

A post shared by InterContinental Hayman Great Barrier Reef (@ichaymangreatbarrierreef)

This year, Hayman Island marks its 75th anniversary, and it’s easy to see how this island paradise has stood the test of time as one of Queensland’s most sought-after destinations. The resort itself is about as private as they come: the InterContinental Hayman Great Barrier Reef is tucked within the northernmost point of the Whitsundays, framed by lush rainforest, white sand, and the world’s largest coral reef system. Days move at your pace here — bliss out beside the island’s iconic palm-fringed pool, snorkel through kaleidoscopic reefs, take to the skies in a private helicopter, or jet ski across turquoise waters. Whether you’re seeking stillness or a shot of adrenaline, Hayman delivers it all with effortless elegance.

Port Douglas, Daintree Rainforest and Mossman Gorge

A post shared by Port Douglas Uncovered (@portdouglasuncovered)

One thing Queensland is not short of, spectacular beaches. In fact, most of the towns and cities up and down the Queensland coast are going to have some seriously enviable waterways. What makes Port Douglas stand out is its unique landscapes, luxury hotels and dining options.

Although it technically is, Port Douglas feels like anything but a small town. With fabulous waterside bars like Hemingways and resorts like the Sheraton Grand Mirage, this location has everything you need for a luxury vacation. A walk across four mile beach offers a stellar view of the sloping, mountainous hills slipping into the ocean. It’s just a short drive into to Mossman Gorge and the Daintree Rainforest – the oldest rainforest in the world. As a town along the Great Barrier Reef, you’ll have access to plenty of diving and snorkelling tours. And you’re just an hour from Cairns and Kuranda’s attractions like the bird sanctuary and the koala gardens.

The Gold Coast

A post shared by #thisisqueensland (@queensland)

An hour South of Brisbane is The Gold Coast, the theme park capital of Australia. It’s main attractions include Dreamworld, Sea World, Wet’n’Wild and Warner Bros. Movie World. But of course, there’s plenty of other things to do if rides are fairy floss aren’t your thing.

The Gold Coast is home to some seriously stunning beaches and world class nightlife. If dinner and drinks are your idea of a good time, this is the destination for you. Hikers be aware, it’s also about 20km out from Lamington National Park a section of the ancient Gondwana Rainforests, which is home to the rare Albert’s lyrebird. For luxury travellers, check out the QT hotel or the Palazzo Versace.

The Sunshine Coast, Caloundra and Noosa

A post shared by #thisisqueensland (@queensland)

For a similar, but quieter alternative to the Gold Coast, look to the Sunshine Coast. A vacation in this area is really about exploring the natural sites. Relax on the stunning beaches, where the water is warm nearly all year round, take a bush walk, explore the rainforest, try kayaking or stand up paddle boarding. Of course, as a popular holiday spot there is still plenty of restaurants, farmers markets, theme parks and other attractions. In particular, make sure to check out the Noosa Heads and Rainbow Beach. And hikers, bring your boots because this area has lots of hidden waterfalls and swimming spots.

Brisbane

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Visit Brisbane (@visitbrisbane)

The capital and largest city in Queensland, Brisbane is a metropolitan hub perfect for sightseers, foodies and culture seekers. Brisbane has all the fabulous weather and beaches you come to expect of Queensland but with some of the luxury touches the smaller towns don’t have. It’s home to some of Australia’s most magnificent hotels like the 5-star W Hotel and the famed Calile Hotel, which is know for its striking mid-century design. There are cult food destinations like Three Blue Ducks and Otto and plenty of roof top bars overlooking the river.

And of course, there are all the other fun things to do that come with a big city; picnics in the park, markets, cinemas, cocktail bars, botanic gardens and more.

Cairns, Palm Cove and Fitzroy Island

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by #thisisqueensland (@queensland)

If you’re looking to explore Northern Queensland, Cairns makes your perfect base. This town has an airport, which makes it more accessible that places like Port Douglas, but you can still see all the sights. Take a tour of. the Great Barrier Reef, explore the rainforests at Kuranda, visit the tablelands, go for a hike and check out the local food and bar spots. Also, take a 30-minute trip to visit Palm Cove, a community in between Cairns and Port Douglas that has a tonne of family-friendly attractions. Or if you prefer a quieter luxury island retreat, Fitzroy island is just 45 minutes off the coast of Cairns.

Just remember, when visiting Cairns, take your hiking boots and swim suits, the rainforests in the area conceal some of the country’s best rainforests and freshwater swimming spots!

Townsville and Magnetic Island

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by #thisisqueensland (@queensland)

Townsville is the largest town in the dry tropics region of Queensland. The allure of this place is undeniable, the stretches on sandy beaches donned with palm trees look more like a tropical island in the pacific than a region of Australia. Particularly, The Strand, a two and half kilometre stretch of stunning beach with a promenade and plenty of places to eat and drink. There’s also plenty of family attractions like animal parks, playgrounds and historical sights. And it’s an easy base from which to explore the Great Barrier Reef. In fact it has some of the best diving opportunities in the whole country with the first underwater museum.

What makes Townsville’s different to the other spots around is that you can actually swim in the beaches . Most of the North Queensland beaches are not swimmer-friendly owing to the stingers that lurk in the water. But in Townsville, The Strand beach is protected by nets.

Then of course there’s Magnetic Island off the coast of Townsville. A little, tropical island filled with hiking trails, wildlife, some seriously luxe hotels and of course picturesque beaches. It makes for the perfect island escape without actually having to leave the country.

The Great Barrier Reef

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by #thisisqueensland (@queensland)

One of the great wonders of the world and one of Australia’s most famous natural attractions, it’s The Great Barrier Reef. An expansive reef that covers the length of mid all the way to North Queensland, this destination is accessible from a few different places.

The Whitsundays, Cairns and Port Douglas are some of the most popular places from which to visit the Reef. Just remember that global warming has caused significant coral bleaching and the Northern end of the reef is sadly not what it used to be. If you wish to snorkel, dive and experience the wondrous vibrancy of The Great Barrier Reef, it’s best to access the Southern parts from Cairns downward.

Bundaberg

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Bundaberg Region (@visitbundaberg)

You’ll recognise the name of this town as it’s the home to the Bundaberg brewery. A location on the Southern end of the Great Barrier Reef, this place offers plenty of things to do and see, even if you’re not into rum, like the reptile park and the hall of aviation. Although a tour of the iconic distillery it one of the top sights to see.

Since, tiny Bundaberg is only 18 minutes from the the beach, you can even use this spot as a base to explore the Southern and more vibrant end of the Great Barrier Reef.

Undara Volcanic Park

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Undara Experience (@undaraexperience)

Undara is more of a sight to see than a destination where you can stay, but it makes the list because it’s one the most spectacular sights in all of Queensland. This expansive volcanic park is filled with natural wonders like flow patterns and 190,000 year old lava tubes. It’s best accessible from Cairns and definitely worth the time to visit.

Bunya Mountains

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by The Bunya Mountains (@thebunyas)

Due to Queensland’s warm weather, there aren’t many opportunities for cold, cosy moments in this state. But if you’re looking for one, try the Bunya Mountains, a section of the Great Dividing Range. It won’t snow, but it’s definitely cool enough here to justify a log fire and blankets.

The Bunya Mountains are a destination for rest and relaxation mixed with bush walking, yoga and cycling. You’ll find early morning markets and cute cafes to keep you occupied during and big starry skies to entertain you at night.

Cape Tribulation

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Travel | Explore | Nature (@palmtraveller)

This remote headland is a coastal destination within the Daintree Rainforest. It’s a relatively untouched haven that shows us a slice of what Australia looked like before people settled in. A spot for eco-tourism, Cape Tribulation really is about soaking in the raw, natural beauty of the crystalline blue waters against the thick tropical rainforest. For the ultimate experience, take a guided tour to hear the histories of how this place evolved and continues to thrive today.

Cape York

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Cape York Experience (@capeyorkexperience)

The most Northern point of Australia, Cape York is a national landmark. But there’s plenty of other cool things to do, in addition to visiting the rocky outcrop that marks the tip of Australia. It’s a popular spot for camping and reconnecting with nature. Of course there are beaches, and plenty of rainforest too. But there’s also quintessentially Australian red dirt roads, the Chillagoe Caves and the Great Barrier Reef to explore with this town as your base. It’s also the main port from which to reach the Torres Straight Islands, some of the most visually stunning islands in all of Australia.

Winton

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by AAOD (@australianageofdinosaurs)

In the midst of outback Queensland you’ll find Winton, a little country town of just 900 people. Although it’s small, Winton draws tourists from all over owing to its biggest and famous attraction – the Australian Age of Dinosaurs Museum of Natural History. This impressive museum is home to the world’s largest collection of Australian dinosaur fossils. But not just that, this is a working dinosaur museum with the most productive Fossil Preparation Laboratory in the Southern Hemisphere. It’s wildly impressive and absolutely worth the trek if you’re someone fascinated by natural history.

Sometimes the perfect holiday spot or bucket-list destination isn’t about metropolitan hubs or resorts. Sometimes, the perfect destination is one that makes you believe in magic.

On our lists for 2026 is a different kind of travel; one that seeks out postcard perfect alternatives to the most popular travel hotspots. An exploration of places with a mystical current that reminds us of the spellbinding power of nature. Here, we’ve researched and rounded up our list of ethereal places and destinations to add to your vacation wish list. From enchanting forests that will make you believe in fairies to fjords that look like they’re home to the Norse gods, wanderlust awaits.

1. Sintra, Portugal

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by @visit.sintra (@visit.sintra)

Less than an hour’s drive outside of Lisbon is Sintra, a UNESCO World Heritage site that looks like it’s straight from a fairytale. It’s famous for its Disney-esque castles, especially Quinta da Regaleira which features the ivy and moss internal spiral staircase you’ve probably already seen in pictures.

2. Studlagil Canyon, Iceland

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by SJOERD | Travel Photography (@sjoerdbracke)

Arguably most of Iceland should make it onto a list of most ethereal places. This island nation is home to some of the most breathtaking scenescapes in the world courtesy of its volcanic origins. Studlagil Canyon in particular makes the list owing to its stick-like rock formations and bright blue waters which makes it looks like something from a fantasy novel.

3. The Lysefjord, Norway

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Lysefjorden Adventure AS (@lysefjordenadventureas)

All of Norway’s Fjords are spectacular, but the Lysefjord will have you feeling like a character from Frozen the moment you see it. The 42km stretch of towering cliffs is particularly special at sunrise and sunset.

4. Milford Sound, New Zealand

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Pure Milford | Milford Sound (@puremilfordnz)

This world-famous, New Zealand fiord is in the country’s Fiordland National Park. The dramatic mountains rolling into crystal clear waters remind us exactly why fantasy epic Lord of the Rings was filmed in New Zealand.

5. Overland Track Tasmania, Australia

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Tasmania (@tasmania)

This multi-day alpine track is not for the faint-hearted. It’s an enduring 65km trek through the heart of Cradle Mountain, and offers some of the most incredible views in the entire world. It can feel like you’re in another world.

6. Scottish Highlands, Scotland

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Best of Scotland Highlands (@scotlandhighlands__)

This mountainous region in the Northern part of Scotland has some of the most dramatic landscapes in the world. Deep icy lochs, green forest glens and plenty of rolling hills. Is it any wonder that this scenescape served as the inspiration for the fictional location of Harry Potter’s Hogwarts?

7. Arashiyama Bamboo Forest, Japan

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Inspire (@creative.inspired.soul)

Just outside of Kyoto is Arashiyama, home of one of Japan’s largest bamboo groves. There are many pathways to explore, each framed by the towering lengths of bamboo. The rest of Arashiyama is also magical in its own way, a long, blue river surrounded by whispering trees that turn bronze during the autumn months.

8. Waitomo Caves, New Zealand

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Waitomo Glowworm Caves (@waitomoglowwormcaves)

Have you ever seen a cave glow without the aid of man-made lighting? New Zealand’s Waitomo Caves are famous for its blue starry ceiling that is naturally illuminated by a colony of glow worms. It truly looks like a scene from Fern Gully.

9. Pamukkale, Türkiye

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Elena & Giuseppe | Travel Creators📍Bergamo (@assaporandoinviaggio)

Famous for its white travertine terraces filled with cascading mineral springs, Pamukkale is quite unlike any other location on Earth. This site in Western Türkiye is UNESCO World Heritage listed and one of the most unique destinations for bucket list travellers.

10. Stonehenge, England

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Stonehenge (@stonehenge)

The world-famous prehistoric site is arguably one of the most magical destination in the world. It’s believed to be an ancient temple used for sun and moon ceremonies dating back to 3000 BC. This destination is a pillar of folklore and many travellers report experiencing a powerful, magical feeling when they visit the site.

11. Otzarreta Forest, Spain

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by ❤ addicted_to_basque (@addicted_to_basque)

This spooky forest in the Basque region of Spain looks like something from a gothic novel. It’s about 45km from the Basque capital, Bilbao, this is a showcase of the darkly and haunting place serves as the setting for much of the local folklore.

12. Dragon’s Blood Forest, Yemen

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Tour Socotra (@toursocotra)

Located on the island of Socotra, this forest is famous for its unique “Dragon’s Blood” trees. Another UNESCO World Heritage site, Dragon’s Blood Forest almost looks like an alien planet from a sci-fi film.

13. Atacama Lakes, Chile

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by We Are Travel Girls Community (@wearetravelgirls)

Among the Atacama Salt Flats is this region of high-altitude lagoons. The water here is so still that the lakes look like mirrors that perfectly reflect the unique mountain landscapes. It’s a kind of eerie, vast beauty that feels almost Martian.

The New Moon in Sagittarius wants you to dream bigger https://www.russh.com/new-moon-sagittarius-december-2025/ Tue, 16 Dec 2025 20:15:34 +0000 https://www.russh.com/?p=274647 December's New Moon might just be the perfect moment to manifest your dreams into reality.

The post The New Moon in Sagittarius wants you to dream bigger appeared first on RUSSH.

]]>
Our final New Moon of 2025 arrives on Saturday 20 December. Officially, it fades from its final waning crescent and turns new at exactly 12:43pm, and that evening, the Moon will be absent from the sky.

It just so happens that this New Moon falls serendipitously in the final few degrees of Sagittarius; a placement that offers an optimistic reset and a prime opportunity for intention setting as we approach the new year. It might just be the perfect moment to manifest your dreams into reality. Here’s what you need to know.

What to expect from the New Moon in Sagittarius

New Moons are an emotional refresh. As the energetic low and close of the Moon Cycle, this is a point of calm and cleanse. At the New Moon, we are encouraged to let go of the things that don’t serve us, so we can enter the next lunar period renewed. In a way, it’s a personal check-point; a moment for you to look inward and assess where you are and recalibrate if you need to. This is why the New Moon is considered the most potent time during the Moon Cycle to manifest. Think of it as planting seeds in the spring, so they can bear fruit and be harvested in the summer.

This New Moon brings us possibility, passion and a future-facing attitude. Here, we are invited to think about what could be, rather than limiting ourselves to what is. This is moment to open your mind and allow the universe to show you the endless possibilities ahead. They’re there, waiting to be seen, but only if you choose to look down the path that has been illuminated for us.

The Moon will not be the only celestial body lit up by the optimism of Sagittarius. Venus, Mercury and the Sun are all clustered in the sign of the archer. These placements embolden us to go further, encouraging us to think honestly and passionately about what we truly want in our love lives. Compromising on your aspirations feels empty, instead, expect more. You might be surprised about what comes back to you when you allow your expectations to expand. More broadly, we’re inspired to seek a more meaningful and positive way to exist within ourselves. Internal criticism and berating oneself is neither helpful, nor contributes toward your best self. Instead we’re asked to move beyond this and think about the bigger picture.

The New Moon in Sagittarius will no longer allow you to view stagnation as “comfortable”. Only those things that feel meaningful can offer true comfort from now on. The energy is expansive, asking you to live your life to its fullest and best potential. Sagittarius never was one to value security over new experiences. Do not limit yourself, take a bold leap instead. When you shoot for the Moon, even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.

How to use this New Moon to manifest for 2026

A New Moon in Sagittarius is a particularly useful combination for intention setting and manifestation.

Of course, New Moons are always considered the most potent point during the lunar cycle to engage in manifestations. But the combination of this event falling in Sagittarius makes it particularly auspicious. As a Fire sign, Sagittarius is action driven. An eternal and radical optimist, this sign imbues everything around it with positive energy. It means that this Sagittarius New Moon can make even the biggest dreams feel achievable. It is the perfect time to breathe new energy into any area of your life that may feel stagnant.

“The Sagittarius New Moon is associated with vision, expansion, and possibility, which makes it ideal for deciding what you want from a new year,” says Echo, tarot reader on Tarotap.

So how can you set yourself up for the most success and how do you actually manifest? These are some steps shared with us by energy healer Chala Guzel.

Cleanse yourself.Take a bath with salts, go for an ocean swim or just simply take a shower. This can help to rid any negative energy.Cleanse your space. You can do this by lighting a sage bundle and smoking or smudging the area around you.Clear your mind. You can meditate, listen to music or just take a moment to sit quietly in your cleared, sacred area. Focus on being present and let go of the errant thoughts spinning through your mind. Spend a few moments thinking about what you want to release, and what you want to call in.Write your goals or manifestations.Be clear. Think about what you want to accomplish, what you want to focus on, what your intentions are, what you want to show up, and what steps you plan to take.

9 illuminating ‘glow drop’ serums that will convince you to ditch foundation https://www.russh.com/best-glow-drop-products/ Mon, 15 Dec 2025 02:00:37 +0000 https://www.russh.com/?p=274513 Embrace the dew.

The post 9 illuminating ‘glow drop’ serums that will convince you to ditch foundation appeared first on RUSSH.

]]>
More and more of us are forgoing a full face of foundation in favour of clean skin, with just the right dose of soft-focused gleam courtesy of glow drops.

Of course, not all glow products are created equal. And the wrong ones can exaggerate unwanted texture and leave an oily film. I’d know, I’ve experimented with more than my fair share. Based on the products that I’ve tried and love, these are our trusted and best glow drops for bouncy, luminous skin.

Firstly, what is a ‘glow drop’?

Not quite a serum, not exactly a primer, not a liquid luminiser – but somehow a mix of all three. Hydrating, glow-infusing, with a pinch of complexion correction. The glow drop is the new era skincare-makeup hybrid product that is making an entire generation rethink their makeup base.

Best glow drops according to our own hands-on testing

1. Drunk elephant B-Goldi Bright Drops

Infused with xx acid and a very small amount of DHA, Drunk Elephant’s glow drops are an inimitable cult favourite that improve the look of your skin as the day goes.

2. RAAIE Sun Milk Drops

This hydrating formula has added sun protection and leaves this skin with a glowing soft-focused finish. They don’t have any bronzing warmth to them so this product is ideal for anyone wanting a neutral base.

3. Caudalie Self-Tan Sun Drops

This liquid glow serum contains a small amount of the active ingredient in fake tanning products, so it adds a gentle warmth to your skin. It works best when mixed in with your moisturiser for an even, bronzed finish.

4. Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Niacinamide Dew Drops

This product works perfectly as a primer under foundations for that extra boost of hydration. Because its slightly sticky, it offer grip for base products to stick to. But I like wearing it on its own. Finish it with a big spray of your favourite face mist for ultra bouncy skin.

5. Glossier Futuredew

This is best used sparingly, I only use half a pump. You can mix it into moisturiser or wear it straight over the top of your skincare. I love how it soft-focuses imperfections and gives a radiant and ultra hydrated look to the skin.

6. Dr. Barbara Sturm Glow Drops

Lightweight and nourishing, this product has light-reflecting pigments and hydrating ingredients to serve up bouncy, primed skin. This is a great one to use under makeup, but works beautifully as a finishing touch too.

7. Pai The Impossible Glow

This natural brand uses pearlescent mica to create its bronzey, light-reflecting pigments. It’s the perfect summer product to add a faux bronzey tone to your complexion, or you can mix it into moisturiser for a more subtle look that sinks into the skin.

8. Naked Sundays CabanaGlo Glow Serum Drops

These leave the most lovely finish on the skin because they have a mineral SPF included. It means they’re wonderfully smoothing. There’s a few different shades and I love the pearlescent one as it’s not super bronzey. It’s perfect for when I don’t want too much warmth in my complexion.

9. Clinique Sun-Kissed Face Gelee Complexion Multitasker

Of all the products on this list, it’s definitely the most pigmented and least like a “drop”. For this reason, I only like to use this mixed into moisturiser, so it feels lighter and more hydrating. Best for medium and light skin tones, this is designed to offer a bouncy, light bronze to the skin.

Arguably one of the most interesting genres of film is erotic cinema. These are the films that allow us to explore fantasy, romance and sensuality. But they’re also the stories that show us the dark side of humanity, discussing themes that are at times disturbing.

Whether you’re looking for an erotic neo-noir thriller, or a softly poetic erotic romance, (and based on the opinions of a writer who studied film at university) we’ve put together our guide of essential films to have on your watch list.

1. Secretary (2002)

Maggie Gyllenhaal plays a shy young woman who engages in self harm. As part of her recovery, she takes a new job with a demanding attorney. The two slowly develop a consensual BDSM relationship that transforms them both, offering a healing catharsis. It’s sexy, heart-felt and surprisingly romantic in parts. Secretary is a film that didn’t achieve commercial success but has grown to be a cult title that everyone should see at least once.

2. The Unbearable Lightness of Being (1988)

Juliette Binoche, Daniel Day-Lewis and Lena Olin star in this movie based on the book of the same name. Set in 1960s Czechoslovakia against the backdrop of political unrest, this film follows a surgeon who is torn between two very different women. This is a film that explores sensuality, commitment, relationships and philosophy.

3. Babygirl (2024)

Nicole Kidman and Harris Dickson star in this Christmas film with a twist. A married and high-flying CEO, Romy begins a torrid affair with one of her younger interns. Their relationship begins explore to elements of dominance and submission, allowing Romy a new range of experiences and sexual satisfaction. But as the affair threatens to unravel her carefully constructed life, she has a choice to make. If you want to explore more, we have 10 more films just like Babygirl that you might like.

4. Wild Things (1998)

Matt Dillon, Denise Richards, Neve Campbell and Kevin Bacon lead this sexy thriller that leaves you guessing till the last frame. A high school counsellor at a prestigious school in Florida is accused of inappropriate behaviour. But as the truth becomes increasingly murky and the double-crosses begin to pile up, we’re left guessing about who is really pulling the strings. This campy 90s flick is an undeniable cult classic.

5. 9½ Weeks (1986)

Kim Basinger and Mickey Rourke star in this movie about a short but passionate love affair between a gallery worker and a Wall Street finance worker. It’s a look at a relationship as it evolved through erotic power play, shifting between intoxicating intimacy and emotional manipulation.

6. Bound (1996)

This 90s sapphic tale stars Gina Gershon and Jennifer Tilly. The girlfriend of a mobster and an ex-con enter a clandestine affair all the while hatching a plot to rob $2 million from the mafia.

7. Y Tu Mamá También (2002)

It was the breakout film for Gael Garcia Bernal, directed by Alfonso Cuarón. Two teenage boys and a woman in her late twenties take a spontaneous road trip across Mexico. The three engage in a polyamorous relationship. As desire and jealousy simmer, the journey becomes an awakening—sexual, emotional, and political.

8. Fifty Shades of Grey (2025)

It was the film that put Dakota Johnson on the map. Anastasia is an literature student who receives the opportunity to interview Christian Grey, a wealthy businessman. The two slowly develop a relationship and Christian introduces her to the world of BDSM. The first instalment of a trilogy, Fifty Shades of Grey explore trust, consent and sexual fantasy.

9. Eyes Wide Shut (1999)

Stanley Kubrick’s epic stars Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. After a party for elite New Yorkers, a doctor’s wife revealed she nearly cheated on him. The revelation sends him on a journey through the sexual underworld of New York where he discovers a secret society that puts his life in danger.

10. Showgirls (1995)

Kyle MacLaughlan, Gina Gershon and Elizabeth Berkley star in this film that was critically panned but later achieved cult-status success. An ambitious stripper is determined to be a star. As she fights her way into a starring role in a Las Vegas show, she has to question her morals and relationships along the way.

11. Shame (2011)

Michael Fassbender plays a successful man that struggles with sex addiction. When his sister, played by Carrie Mulligan, arrived and reminds him of old wounds, his addition spirals out of control and his life slowly unravels around him. This erotic psychological drama is dark, intense and explores the ugly side of humanity.

12. Basic Instinct (1992)

When a crime novelist is implicated in a murder that suspiciously mirrors one of her books, a detective becomes slowly entangled in her web. Michael Douglas and Sharon Stone start in this cat-and-mouse-style erotic thriller that keeps you guessing until the end.

13. The Piano (1993)

In 19th-century New Zealand, a mute pianist played by Holly Hunter arrives for her arranged marriage to a wealthy landowner played by Sam Neil. As she adjusts to her new home half a world away, she finds comfort and unexpected romance with a rugged and almost brutish neighbour.

14. Nymphomaniac Volume 1 (2013)

A woman recounts her life of compulsive sexual experiences to a man, after he found her beaten in an alley. Her story spans adolescence to adulthood, exploring addiction, shame, consent and the search for meaning. Lars von Trier blends sexuality with philosophical inquiry. It’s a dark tale that is not for everyone – disturbing, darkly funny, and uncompromising.

15. The Dreamers (2003)

Eva Green, Michael Pitt and Louis Garrel headline this movie set against the backdrop of the 1968 Parisian riots. An American student is ensnared in the intense, sensual world of a French brother and sister. Their shared fantasies, games, and boundaries blur as tensions escalate.

16. Body Heat (1981)

In this neo-noir erotic thriller William Hurt is low-rent lawyer whoe falls for a seductive married woman, played by Kathleen Turner. As their relationship spirals, it draws him into a plot of lust and murder. A film channels the sultry tension of 1940s thrillers with a modern edge; it’s steamy, atmospheric, and impeccably crafted.

17. Unfaithful (2002)

Diane Lane plays a married woman who begins a passionate affair with a young French man. As the relationship becomes increasingly obsessive, and her desire sees her making riskier and riskier choices, her family life is pushed to a crisis point. It’s a story that is sensual, dark but also deeply human.

18. Original Sin (2001)

Angelina Jolie is a woman sent to Cuba for an arranged marriage with a wealthy businessman played by Antonio Banderas. While the two appear to initially fall deeply in love, passion and lies stir up secrets and deceit. All is not as it seems, and it may turn out deadly.

19. Call Me By Your Name (2017)

In the 1980s, a teenager played by Timothee Chalamet spends a summer in Italy discovering his sexuality. Eventually he falls in lover with an older, male grad student who comes to stay with his family. While their romance is fleeting, it is sacred, tender and absolutely heartbreaking.

The under 16s social media ban starts today – here’s what you need to know https://www.russh.com/how-will-the-under-16s-social-media-ban-work/ Tue, 09 Dec 2025 20:03:50 +0000 https://www.russh.com/?p=273993 What we know and what we don't.

The post The under 16s social media ban starts today – here’s what you need to know appeared first on RUSSH.

]]>
As of now, people under the age of 16 should not be able to access social media in Australia.

It’s a measure put in place the Albanese Government, in accordance with its strategies on eSafety for young people, particularly surrounding the issues of bullying and the consumption of unsafe content.

So, what does this mean for account holders who are underage? Will you be punished if your account is still active and you’re under 16? Will over 16s be forced to prove their age? Here’s what we know and what we don’t.

Which platforms does the ban apply to?

As of 10 December 2025, the under 16s social media ban applies to:

FacebookInstagramKickRedditSnapchatThreadsTikTokTwitchThe social network formerly known as TwitterYouTube

The ban will not apply to the following:

DiscordGitHubGoogle ClassroomLEGO PlayMessengerPinterestRobloxSteam and Steam ChatWhatsAppYouTube Kids

However this could change. Reddit is currently preparing to challenge its inclusion in the ban with a lawsuit that could be lodged to the High Court of Australia. It is likely some platforms could be removed from the banned list and some new ones could be added as the policy evolves.

How are the social media platforms going to verify age?

It’s still not crystal clear how each platform plans to do this. Each platform will have its own method.

The obvious one is looking at the date of birth on the account. Any account holder with a date of birth that places them under 16 will be automatically removed.

The process for the under 16s who have an inaccurate date of birth on their accounts is more complex. The only requirement from the Government is that the platforms take “reasonable steps” to ensure under 16s are removed and that Government ID cannot be used as the only way to verify age.

For example, Snap is reportedly using k-ID to verify ages. This company uses three methods: a yes/no message sent from a bank using ConnectID; scanning Government-issued ID and requesting a selfie which will be age-estimated.

It is expected that the other platforms will also use a mix of facial age matching and requesting Government IDs.

Another example is TikTok, which marked the start of the ban with a message to all users outlining updated terms of use. It read: “Users must now be 16 or older to use TikTok in Australia. We’ll use your age information to confirm if you’re old enough to use TikTok […] By continuing, you agree to our Terms of Service.”

The Australian Government has been clear, it is the platforms’ responsibility to verify the age of its users and remove anyone under age. There is a $49.5 million fine for non-compliance.

Some accounts will receive requests for a visual age check

The removal of under 16s accounts began at least two weeks prior to the ban taking place. Some account holders have received requests to provide photos for a “visual age check”. It has raised question about whether teens will be about to circumvent the ban by simply uploading the videos or photos of an older person.

If you’re under 16, will the entire contents of your account be deleted?

According to reports, Facebook and Instagram will offer underage users the option to download their photos and messages or simply putting their accounts on hold for when they do turn 16.

TikTok is giving users the ability to both deactivate or to delete their accounts. They will be able to archive their posts. Snapchat users should also be able to download their photos and communications. The account should be preserved for when they turn 16.

How is the ban going to be enforced? What happens to underage users who aren’t removed?

So many of the detail around the ban are still open or unconfirmed as there is no one rule; and it is up to each platform to manage their own users in their own way.

However, we know that any underage users who retain their accounts will not be punished. The Government has placed the onus for removal solely on the platforms.

For those who has planned to get around the ban with a VPN, there is evidence that the platforms will be able to tell when one is being used. A VPN will likely not be a longterm solution to skirt the ban.

Will this mean users over 16 will have to prove their age?

It is still unclear if older users will have to show proof of age, or whether their photos will simply be scanned with facial age estimation software.

If your account is mistakenly removed, there will be an appeals process available on each platform. Meta has a facial assurance check which will require user to upload a video selfie – or it will ask for Government ID. TikTok will have several appeal methods which also include age estimate and Government ID. Snap users can provide a bank card.

More Australian sunscreens may have SPFs lower than advertised https://www.russh.com/zinc-sunscreens-fail-testing-abc-investigation/ Tue, 09 Dec 2025 01:30:42 +0000 https://www.russh.com/?p=273903 A new batch of sunscreens is in the spotlight.

The post More Australian sunscreens may have SPFs lower than advertised appeared first on RUSSH.

]]>
A new batch of more than 30 sunscreens are in the spotlight thanks to an investigation by the ABC.

ABC News has allegedly found that a zinc sunscreen base formula, which failed multiple preliminary tests, is being used across 31 different brands in Australia. This base formula allegedly showed an SPF protection in the low to mid 20s rather than the advertised 50+.

A whistle blower found a zinc base formula tested lower than its claimed SPF

Whistle blower and founder of MooGoo Craig Jones tested his own sunscreen – which used a base from Advance ZincTek – when he noticed problem with a zinc oxide shipment. He discovered that batch was testing at SPF 27 rather than the promised SPF 40. As a result, he had to discard over $400,000 of stock.

After he moved suppliers and contacted the TGA to report his findings, the incident prompted him to look further than just his brand. Jones tested another sunscreen he alleges uses the same Advance ZincTek base formula that failed his first test. Here it received a result of 21 for a product labelled SPF50. Jones then contacted the ABC.

The two companies under scrutiny are base formula supplier Advance ZincTek and sunscreen manufacturer VeganicSKN

Advance ZincTek is deeply connected to sunscreen manufacturer VeganicSKN. They share some directors and ownership interests through immediate family connections. The ABC article alleges VeganicSKN sunscreens use the base formulas from Advance ZincTek – meaning there are 31 potentially affected products.

Additionally, investigators found that all 31 sunscreens share the same regulatory listing number (AUST-L 407959) – a practice that may be illegal.

VeganicSKN has strongly disputed the preliminary test results, arguing the legitimacy of the testing target and that Jones’ test only include five subjects rather than the minimum 10 required by the Therapeutic Goods Administration. While VeganicSKN has provided documents showing SPF results above 50, one of the labs that conducted the tests is owned by the same zinc supplier. This naturally raises conflict-of-interest concerns.

The TGA says it is concerned about the preliminary data and is now considering formal investigation and possible regulatory action.

Why are so many sunscreens allegedly failing post-consumer testing?

The ABC’s investigation follows a Choice investigation from earlier in 2025 which resulted in more than 20 sunscreens being pulled from shelves, owing to widely used base formula that failed SPF testing.

It’s raised question around how sunscreens are tested in Australia. Sunscreens must comply with testing and labelling requirements in the Australia/New Zealand standard for sunscreens, which incorporates internationally recognised ISO standards. But there doesn’t appear to be a requirement as to who can test sunscreens and which labs can test them.

When RUSSH asked the TGA in June of 2025 if sunscreen brands were legally required to use a lab to test their sunscreens, and if so, do those labs have any accreditation they need to accede to, a spokesperson responded with: “In general, sunscreen sponsors (product owners) do not conduct SPF testing in-house. There are limited SPF testing facilities globally, sunscreen sponsors are likely to rely on 3rd party laboratories to conduct these tests.”

It is still unclear whether brands are legally required to use a lab to test their sunscreens, and whether that lab needs to hold accreditation.

Do we have a list of the potentially affected sunscreens?

We currently don’t have a list of the affected products but the ABC has included a picture of some of them in the article around their investigation.

What do we know about the third book in the ‘Quicksilver’ series https://www.russh.com/quicksilver-book-three/ Tue, 09 Dec 2025 00:30:30 +0000 https://www.russh.com/?p=273334 Is it already available for pre-order?

The post What do we know about the third book in the ‘Quicksilver’ series appeared first on RUSSH.

]]>
For anyone that devoured Brimstone in a weekend, you’re probably wondering, ‘when will I get my hands on the next one’? And you’re not alone.

Booktok readers emerging from the Fourth Wing and ACOTAR haze, looking for their next tome, immediately locked onto Callie Hart’s Quicksilver. It’s the tale of Saeris Fane, a woman living and surviving in the poorest part of her segregated city. After an encounter with one of the Queen’s guards gone wrong, Saeris is faced with a deadly situation that would see her pulled into pool of molten quicksilver and into another realm.

Both Quicksilver and its follow up Brimstone make up the first two instalments in what is set to be a trilogy called The Fae & Alchemy trilogy. The story’s rabid popularity meant that both books have become New York Times best-sellers. Now, fans are waiting with bated breath for any news about the third and final book in the series.

We’ve done some digging and trawled through some reddit threads. Here’s everything we know so far about Quicksilver book three.

When can we expect the third book to come out?

Neither author Callie Hart nor her publisher has publicly announced a release date. But there some clues.

Quicksilver was initially released on 4 June 2024. Brimstone was released on 18 November 2025. This is roughly a 17 month gap between books. If we follow the same pattern, we won’t see book three until April 2027.

However, there may be a release-date plot twist. The third book is already available for pre-order on Barnes & Noble with a note saying the item will be released on 10 November 2026. It’s sent the fandom into a spiral. Perhaps, we’ll be waiting just a year or less?

We do know that Callie Hart is already deep into writing the next instalment. Weeks before Brimstone was released, she posted to Instagram letting fans know that writing the third book was no mean feat.

A post shared by Callie Hart (@calliehartauthor)

If the wait is closer to the 17 month mark (which does seem more realistic), it seems like a long time to wait. But as fans, we don’t want our favourite stories rushed through, only to get our hands on a story that doesn’t match our expectations. All good things take time and Kingfisher fans are happy to wait to see how the trilogy comes to a close.

Do what know what it’s called?

We don’t have a title yet, but given the current naming pattern – Quicksilver and Brimstone – we have to assume the name will relate to another magical element or skill. Maybe the name could draw on Kingfisher’s powers to manipulate shadows? Or the name might relate to alchemy and Saeris’s powers as an alchemist.

What details do we have so far? What will it be about?

It’s hard to find any concrete details.

Callie Hart said on her Instagram “Book three is a leviathan. It will eat me. Or you. Either way… sorry.” Given that a leviathan is a kind of sea demon, we assume she’s saying writing the book is its own beast. It will likely be the longest book in the series.

It’s set to be a frustrating wait for more details. Especially considering the sizeable cliffhanger we were left with at the end of Brimstone. We last saw the now-Queen Saeris and “Kingfisher” (if you know, you know) facing off in the demon-realm of Diaxis against a dragon who demands a hefty bargain from the pair.

Is book three the last book in the series?

Yes, this is supposed to be the last book. While other popular romantasy series are longer – like Fourth Wing which is set to have five books and ACOTAR which will apparently have six – this will be it for the Quicksilver books. Author Callie Hart planned the Fae & Alchemy series as a trilogy, so this coming book is set to be the last one.

But you never know. Mortal Instruments was supposed to be a trilogy but then author Cassandra Clare ended up writing three more.
