Where to buy the cosiest winter bed linens, sheets and pillows

bed sheets

While summer in Australia is pretty hard to beat, there's one upside to the cooler months: our bed. We relish in long, sleepy mornings, wrapped up inside a fleece dressing gown, and with nothing but a cup of milky tea and a good book demanding our attention. Of all the cold-weather pastimes, is there really any simpler pleasure than warm sheets and nothing to do? If there is, we don't want to know about it.

Our linen prisons are where we intend to spend a good portion of the next six months, and now that we're layering up, we might as well use this moment to refresh our beds with some pillowy, fresh sheets. The only problem? Where to find the right ones and how to go about looking for them.

What materials are best for bed linens?

In winter, we prefer to focus on materials that provide warmth and insulation, such as flannelette, fleece, or heavier-weight cottons.

As the weather heats up, vintage washed linen, bamboo linen, and stonewashed cotton all make for lightweight bed sheets that allow for airflow, keeping you nice and cool as you sleep. The aim of the game is to stick with sustainable, quick-drying light linens.

When looking for a bottom sheet, the trick is to look for something both durable and sweat-resistant – after all your body is making contact with it daily, and we want nothing but the best for our skin.

There's also considerations when it comes to sustainability. Fabrics such as French flax linen and linen sheets dyed using eco-friendly volcanic rock materials are a great way to remain environmentally conscious, while still having a great night's sleep. Buying repurposed vintage fabrics and organic bamboo-based linens are also conscious choices.

Where to buy bed linen and how much should you spend?

In Australia, we have some amazing, quality bed linen labels right on our doorstep – no need for international shipping. In general, it's a good idea to buy local to be mindful of emissions.

Bedding sets can range from roughly $150-$600, depending on the the quality you're after, and the size of your bed. We've compiled a list below of where to buy bed linens. Prep for your best night's sleep yet, below.
